What do Heimia seedlings look like?
    #1484111 - 04/22/03 10:37 PM (14 years, 9 months ago)

Anybody got pics? I have a tray of them growing, but I used dirt out of the yard, and there are other things growing in there with it.

It would be nice to know what I'm looking for.  :smirk:

Actually, it's very easy to isolate a super producing sclerotia strain.

Follow the strain isolation technique on Let's Grow Mushrooms, and then select sectors early which are brown in color.  By the second or third transfer, you'll see stones developing, and this is only about 1 month after the original swipe of spores on agar.

Now, take each stone and move it to a new dish.  Soon, the mycelium will grow out and you'll see fresh stones developing, and if they're good strains, the sclerotia is forming long before the mycelium reaches the edge of the plate.  Pick strains which form four or five stones within two weeks and use these for your grain masters.

You should have nuked the dirt first... Always learning something I suppose... Check gardenweb.com's hortiplex.

THere's nothing on gardenweb except a bunch of mindless drones... and no Heimia.

You can't tell by the tiny sprouts. You have to wait until they get a little bit bigger. It's a very small plant and takes a while to get decent size. The leaves are narrow and are close to the stems. If you see fat true leaves you know it's a weed.

“A democracy cannot exist as a permanent form of government. It can only exist until the voters discover that they can vote themselves largesse from the public treasury. From that moment on, the majority always votes for the candidates promising the most benefits from the public treasury with the result that a democracy always collapses over loose fiscal policy, always followed by a dictatorship.” (attributed to Alexis de Tocqueville political philosopher Circa 1835)
