Innoculating Grain Jars
    #1483136 -

Can spore syringes be used to innoculate grain jars?? Everything I've read talks about transfers for innoculating grain.

Yes syringes are fine...might want to use more spores tho..2cc's, or even 1cc would work, but i like the colonization time with 5cc's per quart. G2G is simply faster because you dont have to worry about spore germination time.

2cc per quart is enough imo. They are fully colonized in two weeks with 2cc. Gotta be careful about moisture when using a syringe into a quart of grain. Don't get it too wet. Shoot it on the glass at the edges so it can run down. This spreads the spores over a larger area than shooting down the middle.

Yo bigj2 what size jars are you using, if it's 1/2pts skip that and go straght to qt's and innoculate with 2cc like "RR" said and set them somewhere were the temps are in the mid 80's if possible.

peace

i've had no problems using up to 6cc per quart. not suggesting you try that just letting you know that you don't have to be THAT concerned about getting water levels unbalanced during innoculation. I'm sure that an overly moist jar would not fair so well with such a high volume of liquid inocculant.

What is the colonization time using LC on a 32oz jar of rye or a 3lb bag of rye?

Thanks,  WC

Why necro a 21 year old thread to ask an unrelated question?

Because it's fun. Why use the search function when you can brute force the answer.  Got me to reread this old thread which makes me happy.  But I'm weird.
