I was wondering if you have to pressure cook your whole grain jars or can you just boil them? Or wont all the contaminated get killed boiling? Thanks a lot....

if you want to master the art of cultivating, then try it out with just one jar as a test, see what happens, even with the best sterile procedures if it fails-youll find out pretty quick-then get a pc. good luck with your shrooming

BRF can be sterilized with steam because it's ground up allowing the steam to penetrate it well. Grains are tougher and have to be pressure cooked.
The only alternative is to use a technique called Fractional Sterilization. This involves alternately steaming and cooling the jars over several days. The theory is that heat-resistant endospores will germinate in between each heating making them susceptible to the next heating cycle.
Read all about it in the FAQ:

I have had success with rye grain boiling for 45minutes, nuking for 10, cooling, and re-boiling for another hour. Be sure to remove the metal lids!!!(you can buy plastic ones from sporeworks, but i never have.) Still a couple jars contam'd though. (2/6 jars)

When using grains, it is imperative to pressure cook them. Not doing so will only result in massive contamination.

My friend has managed to get some limited success using fractional sterilization. His contamination rate was high, about 50%, but some jars did colonize without contaminating. He eventually decided that a 50% success rate wasn't worth all the effort and wasted grain, so he bought a pressure cooker and now get's nearly 100% success.
So, grain can be done without a PC, but you're much better off with.

I have read that rice rarely has endospores unlike grain. And this is why PF’s TEK used BRF cakes, meant to boil/steam @ 212F. To kill the bacterial contamination in grain you must hydrate grain also germinating endospores to kill easier in PC. I luckily have an all American sterilizer from my days as a tattoo artist.
