Well, I'm in the middle of getting a masters at the state college in my hometown, so maybe after that.  As for why I wanted to move back home (which is something that people always ask me), I really did miss my family and my dog, and my hometown is so cheap to live in that I only have to work seasonally to pay my way through the masters program.  And really, I got my fill of Boston and Cambridge, and I was not really that impressed.  It seemed to me that people are pretty much the same everywhere.  It took me until junior year in college up there to find the guys who would end up being my fellow psychedelic enthusiasts.  Before that, I had no friends and was depressed.  And since we all went our separate ways after college, I'm back to that square one all over again, I guess.

I would have been creeped out by you. Not in a paranoid way, but in a "why is this weird guy bugging me again?" way. That isn't the way to make friends or find drugs. If you want friends meet them at bars, parties, and other social meeting situations. Don't try to get something out of them, or expect it. Just enjoy the present moment, have fun with people, share things, etc. If you want drugs, just ask for drugs and when they say no leave them alone and move on. A stranger, on the street, that doesn't have drugs readily available for sale, probably won't ever be selling drugs to you.

Your story makes me think of the following scenario: You are walking towards your house in the city, not in a particular hurry, but not trying to waste any time either. On the way you are stopped by a homeless person who, at first, simply asks you for a light so he can smoke. Kindly, you hand him your lighter.

Now you realize he is drunk as he starts to ramble in a close talk. He hasn't lit his cigarette yet. He continues on, mumbling about how when you fight an alligator, you should straddle it just behind the front legs, so the tail can't whip you. You want to get on your way, but he has your lighter which you plan on using in the near future. You try to inform him of your desire to continue on, but can't get a word in as he rambles about not being able to find the handles on his parachute during a sky dive.

After several minutes of listening to a stranger's drunken drones as you stand in the street, you see some people you know walking by. Deciding that your lighter is worth the sacrifice, you use this opportunity to escape an unwanted social interaction. You make it home and go about your day. The next day comes and in a similar situation you see the homeless man on the street and he recognizes you. He starts to walk your way... :eek:

You need to learn the art of not giving a fuck.

Also how to approach people without being a total creep / weirdo.

Hippies are naturally sketched out about informants and narcs, undercovers pull some shady shit.
And yes, they do know the dress and the slang and the words and the vibes.
But a smart person can still spot them from a mile away even blending in. You probably smelled like one.
You got the book smarts now time to develop some street skillz. That's something Harvard does not teach.

And your clothes don't really matter at all, maybe just on first glance. It's the vibes you give off. 

And the whole rant about schizophrenia, trust issues and their childhoods being all fucked up blah blah blah.. you are really overthinking things way too much.
They were just doing what comes natural, from the way you told the story you were the one being a sketchball.

I've heard of undercover DEA with legit dreadlocks already. You can't blame people at all for being so sketchy, like said above.

Yeah I feel the pain dude, I live in a small city where getting psychedelics is almost impossible unless you know the few right people, I agree with you when you say there shouldn't be a market for psychedelics. Just try to imagine how you would have reacted if you had been one of them, some random dude hanging around trying to get hooked on acid. Not that I wouldn't have done the same if I had been in your situation :grin:

Discussion of trying too hard, not trying hard enough, how to dress, how to act, some people overthinking it,  some people doing it without thinking at all: sounds really familiar.
