If he' such a numbskull then why is he still alive? The dude circled everest in a featherlight aircraft, not to mention summiting everest. As a child he got stuck in tidal mud off the coast of england and learned that he could "swim" out on top of the mud. I'm calling it as i see it and in bear grylls i see a fellow that would out survive most anyone on this thread. He's not just some smoke and mirrors stunt man for discovery and it's ignorant to think so. In fact, multiple people have reported to discovery that they survived in the wilderness based on something they saw on M vs W. No, jumping in quicksand or freezing water or climbing through a cave are likely going to get you killed, but if it's your last option to get out alive then what else do you have to lose. Like i said, worst case scenario escapist. Pretty sure he had a show for a short period of time called "worst case scenario."

Hundreds of people summit Everest every year, including old people, little kids, the blind, and brass bands.

Let's see him climb K2. :snub:

it's definitely not that fucking easy. Hundreds of people out of how many in the world? That shit is tough and theres a high risk of death by various different things, namely altitude.

Everest is a matter of money, nothing else.
If you are rich enough to train for it and then pay to do it, you probably can.
Sure it's dangerous, but as mountains go, it's not much. McKinley is harder, for example.

Money aside, that shit can fuck up any thread i swear. As a mountain it's still Everest. fact is, not everybody can handle stress like that. Many have trained for years only to perish. Everest demands a lot of respect as do those who have even attempted to reach the summit, not to mention those who made it to the top.

it doesnt matter how old a thread is if it's bashing bear grylles

I believe Ray Meers trained Grylls because Meers trained the SAS in survival

because he has a rigging and safety crew to ensure he doesnt get hurt,
when he climbed Everest, did he do it alone? of course not, he had a team
he could rely on he did have a leg up and was trained in winter warfare
which really isnt much help when scaling a mountain and the only place
that shows him flying around everest in a feather light aircraft is the
shroomery, this very thread... there's plenty of him with a parachute and
a huge fan strapped to his back, a paramotor. not sure what the challenge
is there though

I got stuck in a rip tide that was dragging me out to sea, I quickly
learned that if you swim with the current you can break free, works the
same in a river, dont fight the water, let it help you

what I'm saying is that the shit he does is counter to the means of
survival and there's never a situation where going deep into a mine or
dropping below the surface of a glacier is going to get you out alive
because you're going into a complete unknown as opposed to being on the
surface where you can see what's around you and given that glaciers move
and mine shafts have been known to collapse when is it ever your best
option... enter a cave/mine to get out of inclement weather

Cody Lundin is the best. This dude lives in a house in the wilderness of Arizona (I think) he built himself. He lived in a wooden tent for something like two years. This guy is a proper survivalist.

apparently not that difficult

At 29,028 feet (8,848 meters), Mount Everest is the tallest mountain of the world. Known as Sagarmatha, or Goddess of the sky, in Nepal, Mount Everest has a mystical appeal that attracts thousands of hopeful climbers every year. It's impossible to say how many people have reached Everest's summit at any given time, since the number changes every year. At the end of the 2004 climbing season, 1,400 different climbers from twenty different countries had completed a total of over 2,000 climbs.

Because of the extreme conditions experienced on Mount Everest, fatalities are commonplace. To date, 179 people have died trying to reach the summit, which sets the fatality rate at around nine percent. Most of these fatalities happened before 1990. In the last ten years, advances in climbing equipment and more experienced guides have resulted in a steep drop in fatality statistics: from 37% in 1990 to 4.4% in 2004.

this kid, 13yo Jordan Romero climbed it with a 50yo sherpa who'd climbed
it 50 times setting 2 world records in the process

I miss Les Stroud.  What happened to him?  Didn't he retire because it was too much stress on his body?

This thread got me watching Dual Survival. It's an entertaining show though obviously scripted like Man vs Wild. I like the chemistry between Lundin and Canterbury, gets pretty funny sometimes when they argue technique.

He stated that he was only going to do around 3 seasons of the show because of the stress on his body. Trying to survive for a week in various terrain with very little food or water time and time again would take a toll on anyone.

He now has a new show called Beyond Survival on Discovery where he explores different cultures. It's actually a really awesome show. I saw it a few months ago and it's due for season 2 in a few months probably.

Haha i doubt it lol. Cody maybe, but i read one of his books in which he said he's "asexual." dave's straight i think. He's too good of a hunter to be gay haha, jk, jk. Hope no gay hunters are reading this.
