Last week Chooken posted this thread where he found what seem to be unusual Gymnopilus, or perhaps Subaeruginosa with strange red spores. I met up with him and he gave me a small gill fragment and a spore print. (Was good to meet you!)

First thing I noticed was that the dry print is now exactly the same colour as my Subaeruginosa prints. While fresh my sub prints are purple, but upon drying go brown. Chookens finds (while obviously red from his photos) have turned to a very similar brown as well. I will get a pic in good lighting, but the colours are pretty indiscernible.

I have my shitty Indian-made microscope and use a cell phone as my photo equipment, it's a lot better suited than my actual camera. In order for me to take videos where I alter the focus, I put my leg on the table and hold the cell phone in one hand against it. It's a mission let me tell you!

I've had trouble finding good information on the best ways to find important features (other than spores) like the basidia, pleurocystidia and cheliocystidia. When I used an electron microscope it was easy, but their rather transparent nature makes them hard to find in a light microscope. Anyways, I'll post up my pics and videos and hopefully you guys can help me decide what these are. Part one should be pleurocystidia I believe.

There are three segments to the video, the middle one is crap I know, but the only way I could see the 3 small structures in the top centre right in the video was to mess around with the lighting. I'll get pics made.

Can anyone tell me if this is likely to be Gymnopilus? Do I need to find anything else? Pics will come tomorrow.
