If the internet were a religion or had its own mythology

What would it sound like? The Internet god(s) would be Windows or apple, and viral videos would be demigods.

theosophy, interesting i'd never read about that before.  I'm readin the wikipedia as we speak :thumbup:

they sound like they knew what was up.  yeah, it's a global process of evolution and the internet is just the newest introduction of major importance, at least in american society and as far as i can tell.  drugs are another relatively recent development, historically speaking (people weren't dropping acid 100 years ago)

they've got a list of all the bodies, that's just like in the holy science by sri yukteswar.  assuming that came from western discovery entirely...wow, that's pretty amazing...

Theosophy is the newest full expression of the ancient wisdome, in as modern terms as it gets. Theosophy kicks ass every time when it comes to modern western Occultisim

actually, in Tales From the Afternow, Sean Kennedy already covered that.  Its incredibly fascinating how he laid everything out, you should seriously look into it.  go to www.theafternow.com and listen to the episode "in the sticks".

In his version, the god in the internet is named Server.

Throughout his version of the world, there are server monks, basically buddhist monks that are jacked into the internet via a cable in their head, and they enter the internet and meditate for weeks at a time, eating only enough to survive. 

In the beginning when it started out, it was sort of a joke but it evolved.  in this dystopian future with an ever increasing big brother presense (before the nukes went off in the stratosphere and burned off 90% of the ozone layer), certain people who were working for liberation activities would be incarcerated and all of the data on them would just dissappear from the computer networks and police networks. prison doors would unlock for them, they could access things, etc  they claimed it was "server".  when someone got caught with digital contraband they said "well server gave it to me" and would get off the charges because it was becoming a religion. that was back in the days though.

since then it evolved into a completely sentient, self-conscious being.  i dont want to spoil too much, please listen to that episode.  the server monks have a prayer they say before they log onto the internet each time.  i've actually started to as well. it goes like this:

Server's Prayer:

I am a node of Server,
Born of flesh and blood,
But enhanced by the power of it's web,
My scripts are a focus of my will,
My strength is my knowledge,
My weapons are my skills,
Information is the blood of my body,
I am part of the greater network,
I am host to the vast data of server,
My flesh is weak,
But my connection is eternal,
And therefore I am a god.

download the book of server.  its basically a "bible" of sorts, and it elaborates on the entire server idea in a religious text kind of way.  its awesome.

This morning I returned my sun-faded Buddha statue to its regular place after having painted it with left-over house paints. I should take a picture and post it. Your mention of Buddhist monks sparked the association, and I just e-mailed on Facebook the same info, saying that the 2 Buddhas in my yard are not at the correct compass points for their mudras, but that "I am not an ordained monk." Small coincidence, maybe synchronicity.
