Do you know how much oil you would be able to buy if there was no profit incentive to drill for it?  Either none or it would cost more because incompetent wealth controllers would be doing instead of motivated money makers.

I could live with that. If there was no oil being pumped, there would be no oil to burn. Day to day life would be hard of course, but like Pris says, you can manage!

did you know that you can build a 120v wind turbine with a ceiling fan and
the best part, you can find them all the time for free, still working, a
simple bridge rectifier and you have 120v electricity at 60hz, same stuff
your electronics and other stuff run on

We could uses horses a lot more. We'd still need some kind of larger vehicle to maintain our way of lives, however. I could see horse lanes, hah.

Then again, Americans + horses = broken horse knees.

actually it's a self fueling model, I just have to provide it a place to graze
strangely enough, horses dont have to eat sweet feeds, somehow evolution
allowed them the ability to eat grass, something I have an abundance of
and the best part, if I dont mind dodging the horse biscuits then I also
dont have to fuel my lawn mower because my cheap transportation provides
me with the same service many pay the mexicans for

Living in Winnipeg, it's 125.9 cent per litre.  That's fucking outrageous.  Damn near $5 a gallon if I did my stoned math right :tongue2:

For reference, I remember freaking out when gas hit around $1.10 per litre last summer.

About OPEC...

Canada is the only remaining country that would qualify to join OPEC.

We stay out of OPEC cause we know that it exists only to rip off the world. I wonder why we dont join OPEC and try to get the price of oil lower...

If Canada joined, it would represent the G8 in OPEC. I'm pretty sure it would put pressure on the arabic countries.

I just don't know why we don't just accept the offer to join OPEC...

Bio fuel isn't practical, and neither is solar. People like to pretend they're standalone solutions, which is tomfoolery.

It's all about designing a more efficient grid, standardizing the electric car battery & it's swap-n-go system, battery leasing agreements, and facilities to produce and recycle said batteries. Centralize electricity production in every way you can (large solar farms, wind farms, hydo, coal, petrol, bio-fuel, or whatever) so we can just get the energy from what we have around and use it for what we need, rather than having X fuel for X purpose and Y fuel for Y purpose.

There are a lot of challenges there, but I don't think it's in the real of science fiction any more.

care to explain why you think bio fuel isn't practical?

It is very inefficient, it also means that corn and other food products go up in price, making fuel out of them instead of food for people.  There are nearly
7 billion of us, the worlds carrying capacity is estimated at around 9 billion.  There just isn't enough land anymore for us to be growing biofuels.
We need to work on making our methods of transportation more efficient, rather than worrying about where the energy to power our needlessly large inefficent
fuel hungry vehicles is going to come from.

Oil is very energy dense, but is running out - biofuels CANNOT replace the sort of energy that people get from oil.  However it should be used where
the organic matter that supplies it would otherwise be going into landfill.  In China they are fitting prettymuch every house with a gas system that harvests
methane from peoples shit.  :borat:

Care to explain how drilling for oil and burning that into the atomsphere is all super efficient?

The 'there isn't enough land thing' is a myth. There's plenty of land, there's just too many fucking people.
And who said anything about corn? Hemp is where it's at. You CAN in fact, replace oil with hemp biofuel. Rather easily. Hemp grows faster than any of source of biofuel we know (3 months to produce enough paper/fuel equivalent to an acre of forest that took 200 years to grow), it doesn't destroy the soil, and it's a renewable crops. It's a weed, that can grow anywhere on the planet. It could easily replace oil, on its own merits.

The problem is not that the technologies don't exist, the problem is that the oil company is doing everything in their power to stop it from happening for the most part.
