I wouldn't care as much about the high price of gas if the super awesome profits were actually going into developing less harmful energy sources. But I presume that they are not. Personally I just try to limit my driving as much as possible, all the while I'm living in a city that has virtually no public transportation.

When I started driving back in the 1990s, gas was well under a dollar a gallon. I remember paying for a half a tank of gas with a handful of loose change. Wouldn't try that now!

I'm pretty sure a gallon is 3.8 liters so

$5.24/gallon

What did I get myself into putting a 5.8L engine in my car?:facepalm3:

Edit:  Just read in another Canadian's post its 4L/gallon so the new price is:

$5.52/gallon

7% on a Product that is a Nessicary in the way our society works world wide,  Yea  that accualy is a pretty monsterous Margin, Considering the Demand will only go up,  and If you take these Profits to Create a Form of energy other then Oil based products, wouldnt be the case. Because the People who are making the Profits off of the Oil,  wouldnt wanna help invent an energy method that would Compete, with them in the oil industry,  Think about it, Cheap energy other then the 4.20 cents a gallon,  the oil industry would go out of buisness if they created an energy source that was more like gas used to be, around 90 cents a gallon,

The Price of Gas, will continue to raise, until it depletes, or we find a Great source of energy that is much cheaper then gas,  then the demand will gas would go down, and the price wouldnt raise, because we wouldnt NEED OIL.  that 7percent is going in the pockets of the oil tycoons, and to make faster, better methods, to rape this earth of More Oil to sell.

Anyone think we will see a legitimate widespread new energy source in our lifetime? Ex. fossil fuel gas being replaced all together by hemp/etc fuel. ?

No, how could you even misconstrue anything in my post to be what your implying? If you wanna look for a deeply encrypted meaning in my post that isnt really there what I meant is fossil fuels should be put in the same legal realm as crack cocaine. Which is ridiculous but so is our addiction to this finite resource.

like what other form of energy?

have you seen the profit margins for other companies, food producers for instance, another necessity, should they also be free?

lol... it's called diversification, if I own an oil company and people are
demanding solar, where do you think I want to start investing? I want to
go where the money goes. if my oil company also builds alternative energy 
systems then how is it competing against my company. when my fingers are
in solar, wind, fossil fuels and bio fuels then how can I fail, I have the
market cornered, it wont matter if petroleum collapses because I still

except what is there that's so cheap, our electric production comes
predominantly from fossil fuels, you can buy a solar array that will
produce the electricity you're accustomed to using and it'll cost you $50k
or more, before my alternative electric source has paid for it's self I'm
replacing major components.

solar water heater that's effective and efficient, around $12k and again,
never hitting that break even point

hemp is the most viable source for bio fuels, it's the easiest to grow (can be harvested a few times a year) and produces more product in the end than corn or any other currently used crop....

Its 3% higher then the average profit margin of any store out there which is almost double making it a high profit margin, and like I said before 7% of anything everyone depends on is a monstrous number.

hemp is the most viable source for bio fuels


photosynthetic algae is the most viable source for bio fuels
switch grass is the most viable source for bio fuels

I've heard these claims a hundred times about a hundred different sources

when you grow and manufacture the fuels in the same state or province that there gonna be used in and produce more efficient vehicles built with low weight new age materials you can easily phase out fossil fuels entierly.
