For anybody interested in the I Ching
    #1431895 - 04/05/03 05:37 PM (21 years, 16 days ago)

Hey people,

I've had this copy of the I Ching for a while. It's a translation from a few years back and is the first english translation by an eminent Chinese taoist scholar. It's called The Complete I Ching, and the author is Alfred Huang. As he puts it:

During this time of great change this book is dedicated to those who are longing to change and ready to change to a meaningful and successful life of abundance and happiness.

It is a highly excellent translation. For me the idea of the I Ching has always been interesting and I've enjoyed learning about its principles through teachers, but I've never found the book to be very relevant or interesting. This translation strikes me as much more Chinese, and I feel like the translator has taken much more care to get the true principles behind the I Ching across, because he has such an excellent understanding of them himself. Also, there's a feeling that it was made for us, people living in these crazy times.

Next time you're at the bookstore go read the introductory chapters and I think you'll see what I mean.

an ancient chinese book of wisdom and divination. rather than foretelling the future, however, the i ching tells us what we should do if our lives are to be in harmony with the forces of the universe that determine the future.
