The Fear of Knowledge

I've noticed that this quality runs rampant in the majority of the people I meet... Most folks have little concern for actualizing their inherent need to know, and instead are caught up in the "path" that leads to an eventual actualization. I've become convinced that these people are afraid of what they may find, refusing all the while to sacrifice their beliefs for truths. Surely there is some truth in that old adage, "It is more fun to journey than it is to arrive..." But I feel that there is also a great amount of pleasure to be derived from true understanding. Psychedelics are the direct link to the mind of the universe... perhaps this explains why they are aproached with such trepidation? What do you guys think?

There's a quote by the punk band Pennywise that says "The more that you know..... the less that you know" and that makes complete sense to me because the more that you know the more you realize how MUCH there is that isn't known, and the more you realize how much there is that isn't known, the more ignorant you feel.

Nothing but pimples on the ass end o' creation (as TR would say)...  Here to do a lil' bit o' interpretin'.  There is great amount of satisfaction in the realization of how little one knows, though.  It leaves more room for awe, and less for boredom! :laugh:

From experience I really don't agree with that. I think Psychedelics make you feel things that aren't caused by any specific outside force, make you think things that may or may not be true, and lead you to believe that you have greater awareness of something, yet just what that something is can not be communicated.

I fear that it is being communicated all the time, in a dimension just to the left of the one in which our minds currently reside.  Remember; we make or break our own reality.  In the words of Tom Waits, "Anything you think of is True..."  So use and abuse your mind to its fullest potential, my friend.  Many hidden glorious things lie in wait.  But never believe in anything, merely accept these things as fact and move ahead...  Let language be the thinking minds tool for forging new, valid realities... :smirk:

There is a Knowledge that is not discursive, not cumulative. It is the Knowledge that Knower, Knowledge, and Known are One. In Sanskrit, it is called Jnana [pronounced gyan], and in Greek it is called Gnosis. It is the direct intuitive awareness of the Ground of Being - of God.

Me and a few friends rented Waking Life and we started to watch it at night. I couldn't not pay attention to it while 2 of the people I was watching it with seemed annoyed by it and wanted to fall asleep. I just thought they must be pretty closed-minded or lazy to watch this wonderful movie.

Some people.......I just don't understand what motivates them.  :frown:

fear. it can hold you back in so many ways. as the path is traveled, the beginning is much easier to accept than the end. i've found myself not wanting to go on at times. the knowledge i was blessed with doesn't always rest well with my thoughts. a contradiction arises, and i'm left confused. if this confusion is left alone too long, one may easily disregard it, and shift to a much easier path. the ability for me to continue where i left off is much harder now, and fear sets in. i've often felt like quitting and letting the fear hold me back, but it takes a strong mind and a strong will to continue. keep very aware of fear, it can sneak up on you at any time, and lingers longer than its wanted.
