Explain this weird Utorrent phenomenon

Sometimes I'll have a torrent for an entire TV series season, but I only want one episode at a time. So I choose just one episode to download. Well that episode starts to download fast for a few minutes. Then it drops off and starts downloading slowly. Then if I stop and restart it, it goes back to being fast.
Then many times once that episode is done and I go to download the next episode, it will already be downloaded by some percentage somehow. Is Utorrent switching to the next episode when it starts going slow on my chosen episode? That's the only way I can explain this phenomenon.

Maybe people don't like to get tracked down via torrents and get fined, so they turn em off. At least that's what I do, although it's affecting the number of seeders.

Not sure why it drops off, thats something to do with the sharing algorithm but the next file being partially done already I think is because it already has those packets of data because they are the same as in the other file you have downloaded.

So the person is turning it off manually? What's the point of seeding if you're going to stop the download? And can't they get away with it if they use Peer Block?

I don't quite get that.

I have no idea what ports are and which to open.

it could be that some users only have certain episodes. when you start the download (i assume) you are looking at the global speed and not for each individual file. de-selecting files will obviously create a smaller pool that you can download from which in turn would slow your speed.
also, if you start the torrent and THEN select which file you want then a small portion of the content will have already begun the download. that would explain why there is some data there for the other episodes.

What do you think it is, genius? I had weird ass speed issues going on with my torrents too, up until I opened the proper ports and now it's always downloading fast. Explain that, home boy.

It's because of the way torrenting works.
Not everyone has the episode you're looking for.
Plus you download segments from people. So that segment might contain part of another episode. Which you will have to download to get the episode you want.

haha.. chill bro.
like i said in my post above, i think its just the order of the way hes doing things.
while opening the correct ports is what everyone should be doing, it is not a cure all solution.
in 99.9% of the threads about "having torrent problems" there is someone who says "did you open your ports?"

I was just messin' anyway I'm not getting on your case
And yeah you're right, it's always the first thing people suggest. But that's just because it really does fix a lot of issues. Might as well just try it and see, it can only make things better

Noticeofeviction: I'm following the directions of your port opening page, but I'm stuck on the "Step 3: Log into your router settings page" part. I guess I have a firewall up or something? I don't even know. I know I have PeerBlock on.

i ge this a lot, when selecting a single from multiple, i even tested a few times selecting the whole thing and saw the speed shoot up, but alas i dont know why other than the perticular file has not been shared as much as others so it doesnt always connect as well, seeds play a part too if there are more than leachers then you nend to get a better overall dl speed no matter what you select and no two torrents behave the same

But the speed is fine for a few mintues. Then it slows. Then I stop and restart it. Then it's fast again for a few minutes.
