Riddle Me This
    #14117342 - 03/13/11 11:51 PM (12 years, 11 months ago)

Is the best riddle one that can't be solved?

Or does a riddle have to be solvable in order to be a riddle.

Or is it possible to have a riddle with no literal solution whilst having a metaphorical solution?

Could the fact that the riddle is unsolvable be the answer?

-"This statement is false."

-"What Dyson is about to say is false."
"What Friedrick just said is true."

-A thumbprint of LSD

I wonder if a riddle can be defined as such without a solution...

Rid.dle
{Rid-l}

noun, verb, -dled, -dling.
–noun
1.
a question or statement so framed as to exercise one's ingenuity in answering it or discovering its meaning; conundrum.
2.
a puzzling question, problem, or matter.
3.
a puzzling thing or person.
4.
any enigmatic or dark saying or speech.

The first implies an answer, (meaning), must be present. Must be answered or discovered while exercising ingenuity. The other three don't seem to imply an answer must exist, but there can be meaning without an answer, no?

*Looks up 'answer'*

I'm amazed at posts such as this.  Google is your friend.

Well I had actually thought about it further but I was waiting to see if someone else would come to a similar conclusion...

In a way my post is the riddle... (that is a clue)
