common trendy explain the logic used!!!  :sun:

--------------------
Annnnnnd I had a light saber and my friend was there and I said "you look like an indian" and he said "you look like satan" and he found a stick and a rock and he named the rock ooga booga and he named the stick Stick and we both thought that was pretty funny. We got eaten alive by mosquitos but didn't notice til the next day. I stepped on some glass while wading in the swamp and cut my foot open, didn't bother me til the next day either....yeah it was a good time, ended the night by buying some liquor for minors and drinking nips and going to he diner and eating chicken fingers, and then I went home and went to bed.

Hmm. My answer is different than the ones I'm finding on the net...but I got the owner of the fish right?

Is it possible there is more than one combination that satisfies the logic?

Yep, exactly the same as me. The only thing that can vary in the order the result of the hint with the green and white house because for example you, as I, took the fact that the green is on the left of white and used it although the yellow is on far right(and is called the first house kaiowas, because the norwegian lives there). If then you inverted green and white you'd have the german in the 4th house. Any answer is correct because no matter the order, you get the same result. The German.

I have to be honest here, kaiowas...I used intuition in this just as much as I did logic :smirk:

How I did it was just to follow through the list of criteria and make sure my ordering did not contradict anything in the list.

The giveaway hint is that: The pets that don't go along with each other must not be next to each other so there is only 1 possible combination or 2 if you take it from either side.Ex. Dogs should never be next to cats.
Then if you take a step at a time it all binds together quite nicely.

I had thought about that, too...but I did not use it to come up with the answer. I decided to not read into the statements beyond what they obviously said. It is not stated anywhere that cats cannot be next to dogs.

Well yes, but if one tries this it makes the whole thing a lot easier.Oh so you solved it without that.It should be a lot harder I imagine then because you then just have to make all the combinations untill you get the right one which obeys all the requirements.

Anyway with that assumption you can check faster if what you get satisfies all the criteria without having to do all the combinations kind of blindly. Of course if it wasn't set up to work I would have lost a lot of time...

Basically I just went down that list of criteria over and over, each pass refining the order I had.

One of the BIGGEST steps is figuring out the order of colors:

Norsk comes first, and he lives beside the blue house. So the blue house is the second house. Green and White are side by side, so we know the first house (Norwegian) is neither White nor Green.

Don't give the answer yet.  I won't be able to attempt this until tonight.

Yeah, and it goes on and on 'till you find out that the brit is in the midle and so the last house is the green and using some other hints you find out that the green house is the one that the German lives in.
It was a bit time consuming. I mean, even with the "dog next to bird and fish" thing I did it in about 90min. I imagine it would take me a lot more if I hadn't taken that in mind.

I figured the answer,  it did require some writing down, but it was not too difficult.

One just needs to eliminate carefully and check all implications.

I did it pretty stoned right now,  funny game  :stoned:

In my opinion this test only shows a form of mathematical and logical
reasoning, not necessary so much for other spheres of life.

But whether quick completion of this test signifies great intelligence is another thread , already discussed in the spirituality and philosophy forum here.

The grid method? No I don't know what that is, maybe that's why it took me 1.5h to solve it...

This was easy, it utilizes grade school logic. I guess Old Albert assumed the world was quite uneduacted, which is not false.

To solve, just use a grid.

This is the method I used, with the most I filled in the tables:

YELLOW BLUE GREEN WHITE RED
B XXXXO
S XX??X
N OXXXX
G X???X
D X???X

BIRD HORSE FISH CAT DOG
B ?X??X
S XXXX?
N XXXOX
G XXOXX
D XOXXX

PALLM. BLENDS BLUEM. DUNHILL PRINCE
B OXXXX
S XXOXX
N XXXOX
G XXXXO
D XOXXX

WATER BEER TEA COFFEE MILK
B XXXXO
S XOXXX
N OXXXX
G XXXOX
D XXOXX

etc.

Using that tactic, you can see who owns the fish without knowing all the info, or even filling out what belongs to who. Simple logic was used. (i.e. In layman's terms, if person A, B, C & D doesn't own the yellow house, then person E must own the yellow house.)

Therefore, the German has the fish. I didn't complete all the grids to discover that, although it could have been easily done with a few more seconds. But I put down my pen once I found out the owner of the fish. If you want, you can complete my chart and fill in the ?'s.

Edit: added all the charts.

A horrible thought, but no... it doesn't force it's way into my head.

And such a feat would indeed be enormous. Too many unknowns... they'd have to tap phone records, too (to see if seemingly [financially speaking] unconnected people are connected) - this would require a secret utility company many times the size of the current telephone operating industry.
