The answer is inevitably: Yes.

Wheres my prize?

What shape is the donut, and what are the dimensions/planes of it... necessary to know to determine where the center is.

Semantically: Nothing in itself is always denoting something albeit the absence of something (in this case), therefor you don't have to remove the nothing for the something to be their, as it is their.

how does one remove the hole from the center of the doughnut...?

Perhaps by re-moving the doughnut-center back into it's place?

"how one Removes Nothing from Something...."

beautiful

re as of

re-
pref.

  1. Again; anew: rebuild.
  2. Backward; back: react.
  3. Used as an intensive: refine.

move nothing.

nothing moves, so removing the hole from the center of the doughnut.

could be done by: as mentioned above, filling it up.
destroying the doughnut, thus eliminating a possibility of an center, (and/or) squishing it to a 'solid ball'..
..

the remove nothing from something, is what caught my attention here :P
flipping it, removing something from nothing, say I.e. .. oh..

how one Removes Nothing from Something.... is I.e. done by taking what contain nothing in a thing, and removing it, within the thing? h a ha

Just take a bite. Then it's not a hole, it's just an area of no doughnut combining with the rest of the emptiness.

LOL!!! This one made me giggle out loud!! I think that would work though, since the doughnut and the hole are inseperable, the only way to get rid of the hole is to get rid of the doughnut!

My answer. Take the HOLE and make it WHOLE!

Aaahhh, I wondered how many would catch the "endulge"....
The power of suggestion, better be careful with that...!    :smirk:

I like the way that ALL so far have answered this out....!
How can one be for certain he has eaten the WHOLE hole...?
What about those crumby "sticky-finger" reminders...?   :crazy2:

MMMmmmmm....  Doghnutsssss....  (UUuuuuu....did I spell that right...?)

Imagine my surprise when I was to think a yet 6th answer staring me in the face
(--as that of deception, or to cover with cheeze - as it were)....

And it was the start of how the hole riddle even started....
WoW, such (MUCH)  mind provoking shiznitt can happen from making some BaggleBites? --
with a ton of Xtra CHEEEEEEEEEEEEeeezzzzeeee~~~....  Hehehehehe

But, then I sit and imagine a yet 7th answer - that of creation....
And thus a close to a perfect circle....
But then again, CAN a Circle be Perfect....?

Good Mornin' ALL....!    :sun:  Dohnut....?    :print:

ME....

:heart::heart:

P.S. ....1984, your prize is the dohnut, AFTER --
we ALL get done with the riddle.....  :smirk:

And thus, the unFINAL 8th answer to the riddle as I sit and reflect - to be that of the unForgotten....
For we will forEVER remember the taste of this ever sweet dohnut as --
the MEMory of the whole dohnut and it's hole, in it's existance, as in our existance....
For it showed great strength and courage as we watched it with hungry eyes....

::::MOMent of silence:::::

Because it is of this very dohnut that we ALL grew strength and knowledge -as it were....

A bunch of dudes way smarter then us have written exstensively about holes. For example, http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/holes/ says:

"One could hold that holes do not exist at all, arguing that all truths about holes boil down to truths about holed objects (Jackson 1977: 32). This calls for a systematic way of paraphrasing every hole-committing sentence by means of a sentence that does not refer to or quantify over holes. For instance, the phrase ?There is a hole in...? can be treated as a mere grammatical variant of the shape predicate ?... is holed?, or of the predicate ?... has a hole-surrounding part?. (Challenge: Can a language be envisaged that contains all the necessary predicates? Can every hole-referring noun-phrase be de-nominalized? Compare: ?The hole in the tooth was smaller than the dentist's finest probe?, Geach 1968: 12.)
One could hold that holes do exist, but they are not the immaterial entities they seem to be (Lewis & Lewis 1970). For instance, one could hold that holes are material after all?they are superificial parts of what, on the naive view, are their material hosts. For every hole there is a hole-surround; for every hole-surround there is a hole. On this view the hole-surround is the hole. (Challenge: This calls for an account of the altered meaning of certain predicates or prepositions. What would ?inside? and ?outside? mean? What would it mean to ?enlarge? a hole?)
Alternatively, one could hold that holes are "negative" parts of their material hosts (Hoffman & Richards 1985). On this account, a donut would be a sort of hybrid mereological aggregate?the mereological sum of a positive pie together with the negative bit in the middle. (Again, this calls for an account of the altered meaning of certain modes of speech. For instance, making a hole would amount to adding a part, and changing an object to get rid of a hole would mean to remove a part, contrary to ordinary usage.)
Yet another possibility is to treat holes as "disturbances" of some sort (Karmo 1977). On this view, a hole is to be found in some object (its "medium") in the same sense in which a knot may be found in a rope or a wrinkle in a carpet. (The metaphysical status of such entities, however, calls for refinements. Simons 1987: 308 has suggested construing them as Husserlian moments that continuously change their fundaments, but this seems to suit knots and wrinkles better than holes.)
"

A couple of dudes named Varzi and Casati wrote a book called Holes and other superficialities. http://mitpress.mit.edu/catalog/item/?si...=2&tid=5493

These guys take their holes way to seriously.

dr0mni: the doughnut and the hole are inseperable

if you have a donut on a plate with no hole, then it's not a donut, it's some kind of squishy sweet bun.

removing the donut's hole removes its essential donutness.

like removing a cat's fur. what do you have left? a weird wrinkly mole-creature. (I know, there's hairless cats, but are they really cats? not in my book)

"It's not a cat!" - Joey Tribiani!

I think some people have way too much time on their hands to be philosophizing IN DEPTH about holes. That kind of realization is one that comes and then you're just like "huh!..." and then move on.

Here's where MAGnum comes in and talks about how a hole is not nothing, because it's one nothing, and thus something... LOL! I don't mean to make fun MAG. J/K.

I just used a dohnut for example because, well, I didn't want to have to type:
"BaggleBites? -- with a ton of Xtra CHEEEEEEEEEEEEeeezzzzeeee~~~.... Hehehehehe"
every single time....!!!!

Would it perhaps be more scientific of a riddle ( ) to use a torus as the example...?    Then the scientist would have to study the holes, for the holes are called "Dots" - (in a Domino? Dimension )....       And MUCH MUCH testing and experimenting would have to be done to see how the Dohnuts indeed Lost their internal Dots - the center of the Dohnut's very existance....  Perhaps the Dohnuts freely gave their very souls to the Dots out of selflessness....?  Perhaps only the Dohnut and the Dots knows knows....

WAIT, this wasn't an experiment, it was a riddle to solve (if one were able...?)....    HHhhhhmmmmm....

Is solving a riddle truly considered Philosophizing....?  (I am asking)    As it would turn out, my list of answers could actually be considered of Philosophy, or maybe even spirituality, perhaps....?    I will type out the 8 answers I found in my thoughts after this post....

ME....

:heartpump:

And Zeke, those hairless cats (even though I think it is just perception) look DaMN EViL, kinda~ much in the way that bats look evil to me -as the hairless cats remind me of bats....    Scary, and I like cats....

(And Mr. MAGnum  would have only been here to argue if someone would have said something didn't exist, because there is no such thing as inexistance....  And I DO understand his words, it is just a different way to look at things, thru his eyes....  So, we did change "0" to "@"....  Sounds sound to me....    )
