As far as I know there are far richer sources of absorbable protein than meat (e.g. spirulina)

I loled!

Ok man, go try and get 80g of protein from spirulina.

It may be high in protein, but you can't get very much since it is nasty to eat large amouns.

Any human living in a winter climate would have had to eat meat in winter to survive.  People from northern climates usually had to consume more meat, where as people near the equator had a year long growing season and could eat more vegetable foods.

One thing I don't think many vegetarians realize is how crucial keeping animals is to local sustainable agriculture (especially in colder climates).  Animals are a large store of calories, it takes much more energy to make a kg of beef because it is much more nutrient and calorie dense than a kg of corn.  It is much better for then environment for one to buy a local grass fed cow, and eat that throughout the winter, than have to buy produce shipped from Mexico every day.

Eat locally and sustainably to support a strong food system for your community.

What people really miss in this meat vs veggie argument is the real point.  How you view your food.

All the indigenous cultures realized that they have to take life to sustain their own, plant or animal.  They respected the animals they killed and plants they used.  Nothing was wasted, and the animal thanked for giving its life for their survival.

Today, eating is a chore for most people.  You are what you eat, and if you don't respect the food you eat, then how can you respect yourself, your environment or the earth.  It is because people have lost this connection with their food, they just keep eating the crap and disease will ensue.

"A human being is part of the whole, called by us 'Universe'; a part limited in time and space. He experiences himself, his thoughts and feelings as something separated from the rest -- a kind of optical delusion of his consciousness.

This delusion is a kind of prison for us, restricting us to our personal desires and affection for a few persons nearest us.

Our task must be to free ourselves from this prison by widening our circle of compassion to embrace all living creatures and the whole nature in its beauty.

Nobody is able to achieve this completely but striving for such achievement is, in itself, a part of the liberation and a foundation for inner security."

 you're misinformed. the digestive absorption of the protein in spirulina (and chlorella) is four times greater than that in beef. you wouldn't need to eat 80 grams of micro algae to meet the human protein requirement. two to three spoons daily is sufficient.

i agree with the rest of your post. food and love go hand in hand

I know I said I was done with this thread, but this ignorance could actually harm someone.
About 70% of meat protein is absorbed. Which makes you WRONG.
And you think you can get the daily protein requirement off of 2 to 3 spoons daily?

Wow man, i am speechless. Do you have any critical thinking skills at all?

Check your sources, people...Anyone who is following this thread should note that all the anti-meat claims have been bogus.

One of my favorite myths is taht meat "putrifies" in the digestive system. Actually, meat is digested faster than vegetable matter. The stomach acid liquifies it quickly, while vegetables tend to rot and get all nasty.

i'm sorry, i made a mistake and got my own facts wrong.

corrected: 2-3 spoons of spirulina are equivalent to 2-3 ounces of meat, a recommended serving, not the daily human protein requirement.

why dont oyu come up with something convincing. all you say is
"you are wrong with your vegetarian crap". you prove something
with real facts or at least something to argue about and the
discussion will be alot more interesting, i promise! actually
the only real arguments here came from the vegetarian side.

SEe what I mean?

All this vegetarian hype sounds all righteous and good until you actually research it. It's just a slurry of delusions, lies, ignorance and misunderstanding! Unfortunately, veggies never run out of ammo. They always have more bogus to spew

No, sorry but you're completely wrong. I spent  hundreds of hours researching this. The only book you need to read is Weston Price's "Nutrition and Physical Degeneration"

of all the primitive societies he visited, NOT A SINGLE ONE WAS VEGETARIAN.

The ones which ate the most meat were the healthiest.

as soon as refined flour and sugars entered the cultures, health plummeted

What does eating refined foods have to do with not eating meat?  You can eat meat and refined foods.  You can also not eat meat, and not eat refined foods.

No one's arguing that refined grains or sugars are good for you.

Well guys, I'm just going to continue to eat meat and try to stay away from the processed crap. I'll also try to incorporate more fish, fruits, veggies, and other plant based shit as well into my diet.

Thanks for all the input.

Most important is finding healthy animals.  Go meet a farmer, get some friends and split and animal.  You know where it came from and it was raised well.  Support local agriculture and get healthier, its the way to go.

So this is what I've been doing lately:
As a way of dieting I've substituted regular meats with Boca burgers and chicken products simply because they have at least half the calories. Instead of eating potato chips I eat the Vegetable chips which are also around half the calories. Pretty much I just look out for lower calories, lower sugar, lower sodium, and more vitamins.

What do you guys think of that?
