yeah there is actually. if you play at a competitive level you need to maintain the utmost, unerring attention on the sport. it can't be about yourself, but only about the dynamics of the game and your place within the team.

Perhaps its also the way people treat sports. Teams "define" people.

Not aiming for Ego Death, but mostly what I do is Century Cycling, which is just cycling at long distances (100+ miles) by yourself or with a friend, no competition involved.  And even when there is competition involved, it's basically just to see how well you are improving, the competition aspect is there just to keep you motivated.

The only real competition is with yourself.
