    I really dig the multiple grind selector that (according to the reviews) makes a marked difference in
    grind size and texture from point to point.  While an adjustable screw is effective, the point by point
    selector will allow for more consistent variation if, for example, m'lady always uses a finer grind while
    I'd prefer a coarser grind.  Having to fiddle with a variable screw adjustment on a near daily basis
    doesn't sound as appealing as having the point by point selector!

Not nearly as fast or effective as the Peugeot but one hand operation is absolutely essential for the all important corn on the cob roll while grinding.  You don't get your greasy butter fingers all over your nice mill when you stop to rotate the corn. :thumbup: Worth the $60 just for that.

Thanks for the tip on the Paris U'Select, that is quite a savings!  Which lead me to this deal:



Looks solid, though I think I'd still crave a 12" mill for the cooking space, while the 7" mills would work
well for the dining areas.  I worry a bit that the 7" mills may lack the storage capacity I'm seeking.  I'll
wait a few more days to see what else you mavericks come up with, before making a final decision.


EDIT: I will need to determine whether the salt grinder in the above set will work with wet or dry salt. 
Peugeot specifies they use a different mechanism for either, and since my rock salt has proven to
become damp simply from environmental humidity, I think having the wet grinding mechanism would
be an asset, seeing as I already have an acrylic grinder I use for salt, that works fine unless the salt
becomes damp, or I use a damper salt such as the red/black Hawaiian or grey salts.

Don't you use salt to spice your sliced avocados, tomatoes, and even salads?  I'd hope you're not using the sodium chloride of the Morton's variety, because there are indeed a LOT of options out there that come in larger grain and variety (without anti caking agents or iodine) and thus require some sort of grinding if you're putting it on fresh food to be consumed without cooking.

I presently make home for gray French sea salt, Himalayan Pink rock salt, Hawaiian red and black salts, and of course some standard sea salt and kosher salt for cooking, brine and the like.  Point is, you need to grind a lot of these primo salts, and the mortar and pestle gets old after a while, believe me!  I have an acrylic grinder I've used for some time, but with the wetter varieties of salts (or if it's been high humidity for several days) the damn thing starts to bind up and I get nothing out of it.

I want a grinder that won't bind up when the salt soaks up atmospheric moisture, and it sounds like Peugeot makes a mechanism specifically for it.  Unfortunately, I couldn't immediately discern which of their products were suitable for the wet salt function, even though they purport the intention.  Might have to contact their customer service department...

I use all kinds of sea salt, Kosher salt, other coarse salts.  I just find that they dissolve by themselves once they hit the food pretty much all by themselves.  I haven't even filled the second electric mill.  Just not necessary.  Hell, I get one of those supermarket salt grinders and the grains that come out are pretty much as coarse as the French sea salt I have.

Hasn't been workin' on my avocados and tomatos. The crunch, while not unbearable, does throw off the luscious texture of these wonderful fruits.

good luck with that, now if you want my suggestion and it's a good one,
you need to go to the supermarket and buy a pair of pantyhose, a large
tub of vaseline, a condom and a very large cucumber, nothing else


when you get home, snip off a piece of the pantyhose large enough to fill
with rice and tie a knot in when filled, drop it into your salt grinder,
that keeps you from grinding the rice, just make sure you dump it and
retrieve the packet before it makes it to the mechanism, of course the
pantyhose is to keep you from grinding rice with your salt

as for the remaining supplies, imagine the look on the cashiers face
when you check out with an amateur buttsecks kit

I just mix rice with my salt, in the mill. Sure it grinds up - but i don't notice a difference, so what the hell?
