Kidding.

But in all seriousness HOW DUMB IS THE GENERAL POPULATION??  Lets make reality shows that involve people who had no intellect to do anything in life so they did a job a numbskull can do.  THEN lets glorify them as heroes.  THEN lets make it seem WAY more dangerous than it is.  THEN lets make a couple more shows that are scripted but some people still think are real (Pawn stars) THEN lets make over 9000 of them!! FUCKKK FUCKK YEAHHH

THEN lets have other sister stations make them too...FLOOD FLOOD FLOOD.  I am so sick of edited shots to make things more dramatic, and scripted dialog that a 9yo with half a brain could see was set up.

At first I thought it was awesome.  Everything went downhill though.  More shots got edited and fit together to make it seem like everything was going to kill everyone all the time.  Even deadliest catch sold out huge, I just want to see them catch some crab.  Not mourn their dead father for ten episodes. 

SURVIVORMAN IS THEIR BEST SHOW.  Just a man and his thoughts.  No tricky photography, no bullshit dialog.  Just a guy.  Its WAY BETTER, and more though provoking then any of those other shows.  The only thing survivorman does is build up the REAL dangers of the area hes in.  Not show seventy clips of ice cracking as they drive roads that are VERY SAFE.  Anyone who thinks those ice roads are THAT dangerous is crazy.  I go on ice roads all the time.  Its extremely strong.  And thee just show cracking, and make the sound of cracking ITS JUST STUPID.

Im sorry for this huge rant but my dad, brother, and brothers girlfriends watch these shows ALL THE TIME. (Along with The dr's, oprah, and Clean House for my bros GF. (Whole other rant)  Im just soooo sick of them.  Its almost disgusting to me lol.

I must have alot of free time right?  Well I think we all do.

That show The Colony pisses me off so fuckin much, Those people would all be dead within a month from lack of food, thats if they didnt get killed by mauraders first off. And the "Experts" cutting in every five minutes spouting off some pseudo scientific bullshit about what humans would do in a survival situation make me wanna rip me hair out.

Kill your tv. The best thing that ever happened to tv was Marty Stouffer's Wild America on PBS. Today's cable tv is fucking rubbish, even the History channel sucks these days.

Have you seen Les Stroud's new show "Beyond Survival"? It is pretty cool, still shot in that survivorman way but he does have a camera crew. He goes out and experiences and learns from indigenous tribes that have lived off the land or sea for hundreds or thousands of years and takes parts in their rituals. He even drank some ayahuasca tea in Peru, but they just kept calling it medicine and the credits rolled right after he drank it.

It really is an eye opener to watch how some people live. Especially the ones that live on the ocean and in boats or stilt houses.

I found the 9 episodes on demonoid.me so I don't know the actual schedule for the show but it is on Discovery.

If you think for one minute those "survivalist" shows are real then you are wrong. These people have plenty of food and shelter when the camera is off. What a joke. I agree with OP. It makes me cringe. I do not watch. Wipeout is more entertaining.

See, if it gives a look into another culture.  Thats another thing.  Thats what I used to like about deadliest catch...but now its all about tuning into the dumb audience.  Ill look out for that one. Thanks.

I believe survivorman is 100% real.  That being said, im sure he has a homing beacon at all times to press if he gets into real trouble.  Otherwise, that show is real.  He does all the camera work himself, and leaves cameras behind for them to pick up later.

I dont doubt theres some added safety precautions they dont tell us about, but Im pretty certain its just him out there for seven days.

Bear Grylls Man vs Wild is of course fake.  Atkeast he does all the his own stunts though.  He gave himself an ENEMA for christ sake.  hahahaha (funniest reality show moment EVER) Especially when he yells "FOR ENGLAND" when hes doing it!:awesome:

I love survivorman. I felt the same way about No Reservations, where Anthony Bourdain goes around exploring other cultures and waxing philosophy about the history behind the dishes and people of the land. But for every Bourdain there's a hundred man vs food shows.

I LOVE NO RESERVATIONS...i dont know if he writes what he says or whatever but some of it is very well written.  And man vs food is just influencing that obesity is ok.  I mean seriously some countries are starving (even people in our country) and we make shows about someone getting sick with food.  Its disgusting in my opinion.

Discovery Networks is what is to blame for absolute shit shows on History, A&E, TLC, Discovery, etc.

Especially History.

Actually you're wrong. Part of what made me love Survivorman so much was that he not only survived under realistic conditions for a realistic period of time in the wild, but that he also had the physical mettle to backtrack every "walks to the horizon" shot to get his camera.

I do agree.  Its kinda unavoidable when my whole house is freezing but my basement has a small fireplace.  My bros gf, or my dad are down there watching that crap.  I mean its not completely unavoidable, but it baffles me they even watch it in the first place.

Yeah, the crab boat show was really bad. It's like... how many episodes can we make out of:

-falling off thangs
-bein' crushed by thangs

The one about the loggers is cool, because it switches between real, interesting (if not for all the personal drama nearly documentary-like) footage, to two hicks setting pipe bombs off from a pontoon boat in the Mississippi river, shooting guns at random, and yelling at each other about who gets to pull up which logs.

Totally agree with the OP. I almost made a thread like this a few weeks ago. All of Disc, Hist, APl, TLC, and whatever else there is have slowly been turning to shit as they attempt to draw in mainstream audiences.

I remember I when I was younger my mom would watch History Channel all the time and I thought it was boring because that's all it was, history. Now that's what I want! Fucking archeology and depictions of the past. Actual god damn history :crankey: Not this mindless bullshit they air now.

Plus, the science channel gets the shows the discovery didnt want on their main channel.  Some of THOSe reality shows are even worse! I didnt even think it was possible...
