This thread is about the gear that I use to make my jars and bulk tubs. I followed teks written by Trusted Cultivators for my Glovebox and Jar Lids. Lets start with the glovebox. Before we even start with the glovebox, lets talk boxes for a second. I dig monotubs, and i really wanted a solid tub that i could acquire en masse. This is the tub i chose.

I selected it because it is made of a pretty thick, transparent, durable plastic, has a snap on lid, and has a gigantic surface area. Here it is applied to Roadkill's Still air box tek.

To make the holes i used my 2" hole saw bit to cut 4 overlapping holes, the farthest edge about 3 3/4"  from the other farthest edge. I then used a sharp knife to round out the hole. After inserting the plumbing fitting i sealed it up with silicone on both sides.


I need to add the port on the back of the box with the polyfill, but i haven't found a fitting that i like yet. Props to Roadkill  for an excellent design and a detailed tek on how to make it.

Here is the tub being used as a monotub with a 4" deep WBS-> Straw/Dung substrate.

So, this thing is 12.3 inches deep. Which means that with a 4" deep sub the sub only has to humidify the 8" between the sub and the lid. It does this easily, which allows you to apply massive FAE, promoting large pinsets and large flushes over the approx. 3 square feet of cropping surface that this tub offers. Check this thread for more info on this tub being used as a monotub. Props to ohmatic for inventing the monotub :thumbup:

Now let me move onto my kits. I really dig being neat and organized. I smoke a lot of

so i sometimes forget where i put things. Being organized helps me not lose things or get frustrated. It makes it easier for me to keep things clean, and i think, overall, is a good move. I like using the rectangular boxes that Ball jars come in to make kits for specific tasks. Here is my inoculation and general sterility kit.



It contains a sterile box with 10,12, and 60ml sterile syringes and a few sterile spoons in aluminum foil sheaths, micropore tape, Germ-X, 2 bottles 91% isopropyl alcohol one of which is fitted with a sprayer, hydrogen peroxide, Oust, N95 masks, sterile pads, a lighter and gloves.

Here is my lid kit.

It contains Ball mason jar lids of every size and description, gorilla/duct/masking tapes, tyvek, drill bits/hole bit, silicone, aluminum foil, and my Wusthof shears. I used this kit to make these jar lids via Fahtster's homemade lids that have stood the test of time tek

.

I have made about 3 dozen, i may make another dozen but i plan on upgrading to a permanent lid setup soon, which will feature synthetic filter discs and synthetic injection ports. Props to Fahtster for an excellent design utilizing materials that any cultivator would have and an excellent tek to boot :thumbup:

Here is my Bulk Substrate Prep Kit


It contains lots of turkey sized Reynolds oven bags, which i double bag my straw/dung/verm/gypsum in for pasteurization, PH adjustor used to treat the water that is used to hydrate the sub, long probe thermometer for monitoring pasteurization, gloves, press'n'seal for the top of the bin (precaution), wax paper to lay on the sub for colonization, and analog hygrometers/thermometers.

All of these kits fit nicely on the lower shelves of my worktable



I cannot explain how easy these things make my life. Whenever i need to perform a task, i grab the corresponding kit, rather than  looking around for the things i need. It also makes it easier for me to take inventory so i don't run out of anything. Plus everything is out of the way and in the closet. There is no evidence of cultivation visible in my home unless i am working in the kitchen.

I am new to cultivation, so i have not gotten a ton of use out of these things. I reckon i will though. Thanks for looking, any feedback/discussion is more than welcome. This is always on my mind, so i'll ask,  What do you think about the subject of tub height?

Organization is definitely key when you are a pot smoking mushroom
grower lol. Very nice setup, very well laid out. I myself instead of
having kits, I have areas.

Iv got my main lab, organized with different shelves and the like for
different supplies, agar supplies, spawn bags, jars, lids, vacutainers,
syringes etc etc. Clear Plano storage containers are key.

Then is my flow hood area, with all the supplies needed to do agar
work, and a shelf to hold pre poured plates, cul tubes, centrifuge
vials etc.

Then comes the work desk. Here I keep notebooks, journals, master
grain culture sheets to keep track of what edibles I have going along
with all the important information in regards to them. Also use this
desk for mailing things so have a lot of office supplies around.

The more organized you are with your lab, supplies and the like, the
easier life becomes as you have said. No running around trying to
find item X Y or Z.

I have not yet done any agar, i have only isolated from fruits. I am sure that the more time i spend with this hobby the more numerous and sophisticated my methods will become. Agar brings on an entire different world in this hobby, opens so many
doors I tell you. Let me know when you get an agar setup going in the
future and I might send an edible wedge or two your way.

Edible and medicinal mushrooms are SOOO fun to grow and the best part is
you get all the challenge, fun and enjoyment of cultivating mushrooms
with none of the legalities attached to growing actives! Its my perfect
world :love:

You are definitely someone i would trust in matters of agar and culturing, as well as edibles. Right now my work schedule precludes the possibility of anything but tubs. I have no desire to be maintaining perlite FC's, and setting up an automated greenhouse is a whole other set of investments to make. In the spring i will have more flexibility regarding investment of time and money.
Let me get my feet wet with my tubs, and get a little more board credibility/access to the restricted forums. Then i would Love to cultivate some edibles from your genetics. I'll keep in touch :wink:  :cheers:

Took your advice, EvilMushroom. Agar, petris, loops and scalpel arrived a few days ago. Mixed up a half liter, cooled to handleable and poured in the glovebox. Poured 16 dishes, waited for the gellin', inoculated with 3 strains, wrapped. I checked the dishes today, no germination yet, but incubation temperatures have been too low for the species. A change of climate is underway.  A friend is supplying me with a shiitake tissue sample, which i plan on isolating. If you are still willing to send me a wedge I would greatly appreciate it, I'll PM you if so.
    Agar seems like a really good move to me, higher consistency, enhanced safety, isolation... I will probably get the actual ingredients and mix my own when i run out of what i have, but i figured starting with professionally made lab grade antibiotic was a safe bet. I am digging this mushroom cult... :wink:

Looks good brother! My only advice that is not in my write up:
-As soon as you can get some Parafilm do so. The 2" strips can be
sliced in half length wise to wrap more cultures but it really is
the bee's knees when it comes to wrapping plates.

- I wrap my plates after pouring with glad clingwrap nice and tight
and then when I used them I seal with parafilm.

I cut a few wedges today and would be willing to send you a Blue Oyster
wedge if you are interested. It will arrive in a sealed sterile plastic
baggie and the wedge will be squished. You then transfer the sludge,
goop, wedge remainders in the baggie to a few separate plates and
it should grow out fine. This culture is VERY healthy.
