Greenhouse Incubator Fun

okie, a few weeks ago, me and a buddy of mine were wandering out of revy home and garden (don't know if that exists outside of canada) with a cartful of peatmoss, black growing trays and perlite, when what do we spy but a 5' tall mini-greenhouse. Basically, this thing is like one of those Antonius deals, except with green racks, a clear cover, and only $40!!! And that's canadian money, so it's like, i dunno, pocket change for some of you guys.

Anyways, I set this baby up in my furnace room, throw a temp/hum gauge in and a couple trays of wet perlite in the bottom, and just leave it. Now, i'm quickly running out of space in my magical little furnace room of doom, so when I innoculated some rye jars, I thought "ahh, what the heck, the greenhouse is empty, and it's got a bunch of shelf space, i'll just chuck these in here." Of course, I decided it would be fun to actually monitor the temp in there for a bit, and I was kinda happy with what I saw. The temperature seemed to stay between 84 and 88F, which seemed to me like good colonization conditions.

Well, it's 72 hours after innoculation, and there's visible growth on all the jars. Yay! (better than waiting 2 weeks for those damn BRF cakes to germinate. I've crossed over to the other side, I can't go back... hopefully my first casing attempt will work out just as well  :smirk:

oooooh yea, that's the one

beautiful little thing, eh?

Ganj: i've just got my jars in the box they came in, which provides, well, darkness. The furnace room isn't dark, it's more of, uhh, almost dark. There's a window, but it's semi-translucent (from a thick layer of dust), and I'm in a basement, so there's a bunch of grass and little bushes right outside the window. Nice bit of diffused sunlight :]
