Incubating - Heat Pad Needed?
    #2377084 - 02/25/04 09:45 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Is there anyway to keep the jars at a reasonable temperature whilst they incubate without using a heat pad or any other sort of electrical device?

In the cubbard over the frig or stove...but will colonize slower.

In the furnace room.

Turn up the heat in your house or apt....draw back is higher heating bills.

Make an incubator!~

im using a heating pad right now. I have a heating pad on the lowest setting with one towel folded over on top. then i sort of insulated a shoe box by putt layers of tinfoil an all the sides except the bottom. then i have a shirt ontop of the jars for extra insulatioin. i close the shoe box and put it ontop of the pad and folded towel. i let them breathe everyday too. seems to be working ok. Caution: heating pads can get VERY hot and can kill you mycelium.

Im using my bathroom right now. Its a small and practical space to keep the heat up without breaking the bank. But thats just my b-room. Other might have way larger b-rooms...

123 - What do you mean by "breathe"? Do you mean just opening up the shoe box and removing the shirts for a little bit? If so, how long is that little bit?
