pre-newbie question

I know mushrooms thrive in damp environments, but do they need any sunlight to grow? Say if one were to cultivate 'em in a dark closet or something, would they grow in there or do they need at least a little light? thx

They need some sort of light otherwise it will pin where ever and if you dont pick that pin it can rot and cause contams. All you need is a small floresent light and that will work fine

A little light would be fine. Light is really only needed while waiting for the actual formation of primordia. After the pins have formed, the light is not necessary for them to reach maturity.

Okay.. what if your fruiting chamber is in your closet, under a few boxes but it's transparent on the sides and you've got light shining in from the corner but the other corner is covered over? I know someone who's new too... trying to get a good procedure down so that they don't waste like 2 months on a bad method.

Basically.. it's hidden in the corner of a closet (covered on one side) but the other corner has a light and is always shining on it.

Figure that'll work?
