Yes but not sure why you wont to bury it?Im just cutting mine into 3foot logs and wraping wire around them to make what looks like a rope ladder and hanging it against a wall. Some mushrooms you need to bury the log but i think with shiitake its bettter not buried.I could be wrong though?were have you read about burying the log?

edit i just reread and i think you mean like a totem pole right?Yeah that should work fine.

I remember seeing somewhere some shitake logs that were about 6" diameter, and 5' long that were planted vertically about a foot deep.

I don't know why.

That would look good hu lol.But youed need a few mods to make it dif from a normal totem pole.As in you need to keep as much bark on a possible as this it vital to fruit formation.Or so i read.
I have though  on doing a few chainsaw sculptures and putting in Shiitake dowels as well as oysters and anyother wood speices depending on the wood used

I was thinking a few large mushroom sculptures with mushrooms growing of off.

shiitakes arn't the best to bury from what ive heard, but im sure it would work, its a good way to keep the whole long moist while neglecting it. from what ive read the best way is to stack the logs and water them about twice a week.
