I look at McKenna as a creative channeler, so I liked when his words flowed immediately on the spot. The humor and brutal honesty is what distinguished him from bench scholars and dry Victorian naturalists. Sometimes he was spot on with unbelievable brilliance, while sometimes he regressed into pure verbal effluvia and repetition. But his approach was a no strings attached, see-for-yourself encouragement for direct experience and personal revelation.

I liked when he once remarked, "the amazing thing about all of this... is what I'm saying is true."

And another time, he said "truth only exists in silence, so when you embark from that point you're bound to run into quirky games".

His character shines through more with his lectures, I suppose. I've heard them all several times, and can actually finish his sentences throughout many of them.

I used to spend hours listening to Terence's lectures, then go outside and stand barefoot in a field and stare up at the moon, with deep thoughts about the nature of things coursing through me.  It was not so long ago but it feels like a different life.  I had faith in transcendence, the inter-dimensional elves, the cosmic giggle, and above all the power of the psychedelic experience.  Terence McKenna once turned me on to DMT in a dream, one of the most profound and indescribable I can recall having had.

Now I am pretty skeptical, a cynic, and whenever I hear Terence McKenna (my dad is actually an avid listener after I introduced him to McKenna's old lectures) I feel I am on a different wavelength.  Still, I am fond of the guy.

I think that's an important sign of growth. It's important to process the messages and then move on without clinging to attachment. There are multiple modes to understand and experience the world.

On a deeper level, I don't really see "Terence McKenna" as person or thinker. I'm pretty sure one of the gateway portals between here and there became slightly ajar, intentionally of course, and the purposeful energy that slipped out manifested as a geeky intellectual urging us to push on further, to sail the high seas and net some fish. Moby dick isn't about a whale. Get it?

Females are also embodiments of change that can spontaneously appear in unlikely places in order to place twists and turns on your paths. All the great poets who used female references aren't talking about women... that's one of the esoteric secrets.
