I used to use 2 liter coke bottles back in the day for a lot of my cakes. Works fine and your cakes do provide most of their own humity. But for an added mesure of assurace you could always just add a layer of moist perlite to the bottom of the bottle. I used to moisten a piece of paper towel and lay it on the bottom of the bottle for extra humidity. The biggest draw back with using a bottle is that you always have to open it up and fan the cake so you keep CO2 levels down. If you just have 1 or 2 cakes fruiting in a bottle terrarium its ok, but the more you have, the more work it becomes.

I've never done it, but I'd say no. I've seen some people use damp paper towels as a humidity source, but why not just go with perlite?

Unless you live somewhere where the humidity is really high, you'll need to spray atleast three times a day. also, keep a little perlite in the bottom and put something under the cake to keep it off the perlite.

Moist paper towel(s) would be plenty for humidity in a coke bottle. John Schoolenboff has a cake in a milk jug with 98% humidity. (No perlite..or even damp paper towels)
I don't know why he told me this...
