perlite humidification
    #467454 - 11/23/01 09:51 AM (23 years, 1 month ago)

ok, simple question here that i may have been misinformed of. when fruiting colonized cakes in a terrarium; is wet perlite enough or does one need additional humidification? assume the setup is fanned twice a day and it is in a regular sized glass fish tank and only holds 2 cakes.

that is what i thought. but i just read a post somewhere that said perlite is sufficient for casings but spraying was necessary for cakes but i just wanted to verify. my friend has fruited cakes solely with perlite humidification but my 2 cakes have been in the terrarium 7 days now and they are sitting on lids with moist verm between them and lids. the myc seems to want to grow fuzzy and outward, rather than into knots and pins. maybe i will just wait longer and see if the fuzzy bumps form into pins. theyre maztec BRF cakes; anyone with experience on this stratin have any information on the difficulty of fruiting/pinning.

Im currently having humidification problems. I have six cakes in a tupper ware type container and instead ofperlite Im using cardboard on the bottom. My hygrometer reads 80% but my fruits are whiting from mycelium. I just started to wedge a wet towel between the lid of my container; hoping to create more humidity. Right now I'm too cheap to spring for the perlite. I was hoping for more prolific fruiting from my pint cakes. Anyone else out there with humidification advice.

seems like you would post your own thread for a new topic; but damn man your answer is pretty simple.
buy some perlite.
i can imaging with spores, jars, terrarium and all youve spent AT LEAST $40-50. a bag of perlite that would humidify probably about 5 or 6 of you terrariums costs $2.99 or $3.99. if you were hoping for more prolific fruits and leave out simple but crucial methods of your cultivation it wont matter how hard you try or hope for anything you wont get much at all. you probably wasted at least that much if not 2 or 3 times more for your worthless hygrometer which once you get perlite in there will probably incorrectly read 80-85 anyway. perlite will get the job done SO much easier, plus you will never have to mist. i never mist at all and i now have pins on my cakes! im pretty damn excited; actually i was just about to post a new thread that FINALLY i have produced something and i am thankful to everyone here. i noticed them yesterday morning and theyve doubled in size today (still not bigger than my fingernail but theyre growing and not abhorting). i looooove shrooms i simply cannot wait top have them :) im hearing that maztecs are a good visual trip also. o well, sorry for teh sloppy thread all, ill stop rambling on now... :P
