Perlite humidification question.

Should perlite being used for humidification be sterilized? I realize this is a stupid question since I will be hand spraying and fanning, each introducing new contaminants in the fruiting chamber, but should H2O2 be added to the perlite or anything?

The addition of h2o2 to perlite might help and it certainly won't hurt. My friend always does it.

I have a ultrasonic humidifier, but am still working out a method of running it on a regular schecule (my timer has only hour increments) without saturating the cakes.

i run mine 24/7 no matter what. i was doing cakes at first and i had about a 25 gallon fish tank i was useing and u couldnt even see the cakes. i didnt have a drip sheld or anything i just let it run i never had a problem with it and i got great fruits out of doing that. i know it sounds wack but its true water droplets on the cakes and all and nothing went wrong. i figures like this if u want to u can dunk the cakes so i know that all that water cant hurt them or we wouldnt dunk them so what would make it any different with mist? run it 24/7 attach a hose to it and creat a method to drain the water and raise the cakes off the floor on the lid is fine and wait a week it works

Speaking of perlite humidification, how often should you change your perlite? I'm setting up a smaller scale production that won't really need a ultrasonic humidifier (I think) until the rest of my jars get done (and the rest of my syringes arrive in the mail).
