Yes, this set up actually works. The best ways of maintaining it is taking care of it! (duuu ;) ). If your going to be doing 2 cakes (or less) then use a coke bottle. If your planning on doing more than that then i suggest you get yourself an 18gal rubbermaid and use perilite for humidification. That's about as easy as it gets. Good luck D D Island Edited by BrownPastures on 09/04/01 06:44 AM.

Hey if you really want something that works great, then check out the SHROOM-CAPSOLE. It has a clean air supply, big enough to use casings, and small enough to hide just about anywhere you want. The best part of it is you build for less then $20.00. It bares the resemblance of the h-pod. Plus has it's own heat source. If you are interested PM me and i will send you photo's and instructions on build and using. BTW it's free!

ok guys all these words are foreign to me, and thanks for replying Keith. If I use the rubbermaid and perilite combo then what kind of daily maintence will I have to perform on the setup? How do I control temperature and humidity? sorry for sounding like an idiot..:)

thats another thing I don't understand..."casing"...wtf? could someone please explain the process in the simplist way possible? I looked under the casing section of the website under the growing section and all the explanations there went over my head.

dude, i bought some plastic bins that are about 18"x12"x12" for $4. they are really small but really big at the same time.... try looking for them as they will be easier to modify (if at all) and they are pretty stealthy themselves. plus they make nice drying chambers.

inside a rubbermaid with like a half to a full dozen cakes, you can expect to open the lid once a day to check on the girls. you may need to trim some aborts. if there's condensate on the walls then that's it. if not, then you should spray mist with like a used windex bottle, to add moisture. in the casing dept. casing is relativly inert material that serves as a barrier to contamination and as a reservoir for moisture. in its simplest form, it is simply moist vermiculite or perlite applied to the top of a cake. there are many versions of casing and casing technique, but that's where it begins. good luck
