Injecting water into cakes.
    #1348232 - 03/03/03 06:45 AM (13 years, 9 months ago)

How much water should be injected into a 1/2pint cake? A foaf is going to inject directly into the cake, no resevoir. How does this rehydration tek stack up against the others? Also, is it okay to inject water while the cake is pinning? Thanks.

A friend has come across good results by injecting each cake (this is WITHOUT the resevoir) with anywhere from 5 - 10 cc's of water. My friend has also done this while the cakes were fruiting. No damage was noticed. The second flush produced larger and meatier fruits.

AFOAF told me that you can.
And they had great results.

If the cake is fully permeated though, it will be very hard to injsect water in it.

I understand that some people have been known to insert drinking straws into the cakes for this purpose as well.

True

You can always sterile a small drill bit and drill small holes...for the wussy butts without strong arms!

Or drill one large hole for a drinking straw in the top of the cake.

Word.

In my opinion cakes are a nice thing and easy to make, but before one invests so much time and energy to modify the cakes in order for them to fruit better, it?s just more easy and productive to simply case them.

Yes, my friend is on his second attempt at casing. But until he can case without losing due to contams he wants to do cakes also. So 10cc's per cake total? Or 10 cc per day for 3 days? Thanks.
