Caprica Cancelled.

I duno if there are any fans of that show here but i know there were fans of Battlestar and Caprica was a wonderful and highly underrated prequel series. Easily the most sophisticated blend of scifi and drama every to hit tv screens. The low number of viewers was not surprising considering that most people are morons and need formulaic bullshit to be able to fix their attention on anything, but i guess i was just hoping that SyFy would be more considerate of the creative process and not just their paychecks. Instead not only is this show not renewed for season2, they straight up took it off-air. Gonna have to wait for the dvd to watch the last 5 eps of season 1. I have a strong suspicion that had this show aired on a different network, it could very well have survived.

I am truly pissed.

my 60 year old balding, fat, diabetic, club footed, liver spotted, aunt watches the syfy channel.

Never really thought any of there shows were all that good.

Yeah, I really don't understand how it didn't have better ratings. It had a complex storyline, attractive young people, and excellent production. What more could anyone want?

I hope they still air the rest of the first season.

The syfy (formely scifi.. when it still had any scifi inclination..) channel has been on the downslope for a while. I hear its nothing but ghost shows and wrestling now. I wouldn't know myself since i don't watch tv. I watch select tv shows online and feel sorry for the creators of shows that end up being limited by a shitty network like syfy.

The first reason will finish off sometime during the first quarter of Next Year..

I honestly think the show had too many layers for the everage joe to keep track of and posed too many questions that many people tend to get worked up over. The production was more long the lines of making the most out of a clearly limited budget ( the cgi in particular), but things were starting to improve just as they did with BSG. If the network gave the show a bit more time, the production would have gone up even more to the point where the average idiot will still watch a show just because it looks like a good show even if he doesn't understand whats going on.

They are saying that a new series is potentially in the works, written by the dude that wrote BSG: razor. It would take place during the events of the first cylon war. I think this just confirms that the network realizes that most people need shit to be simplified just like BSG was. We got the cylons, we got the space battles.. no need to overwork those brain cells with too much thinking and cyberpunk themes.

yeah, i watched a few episodes, ive never seen battlestar galactica, but i do like scifi.

I just hope that they end the series appropriately, and merge it into the beginning of the BG series.

Doubt thats. Straight up dropping the show with 5 eps still go clearly shows that the network doesn't give a rats ass. And im pretty sure the show was not intended to be a single-season show. I think things will just finally start to really come into play with the avatar-cloning and the cylons by the end of the season and the later seasons would have built onto that.

I'l be buying the dvd in december.

The reason nobody watched caprica is because of how bad they fucked up BSG.  When BSG ended, its viewers left the building, when i heard of caprica i told myself i would not watch that shit.  Plus they went ahead and fucked stargate up along with it, a big part of friday was stargate and BSG.  In short when sifi changed to syfy that was the hint, sifi is gone, china or w/e took over and now all thats left is a "ghost" of a channel.  Stargate universe is so so so so so so so freaking pathetic it makes me want to cry.  Its one thing to end one of my favorite series, but then to bring this piece of shit to the air and ruin all my memorys and all that jazz is just some chinese torture crap.

Pretty much. I watched the SG:U pilot. Didnt bother w any more of it.
I thought BSG ended pretty well tho.

they didnt seem to give a shit when they bounced Farscape's time slot
around until the point that no one was willing to sit at home on Tuesday
morning at 10am  just to watch the show, it was the best thing scifi had
going back then, then after buying the firefly series they decided to
produce the movie instead of picking the series back up again even
though the viewers were begging for the series to be restarted


they only give a fuck about ad revenue

I'm making my way through the BSG series right now. I'm about halfway through season 4, and so far it is fucking awesome. Can't wait to see the ending.

I understand your frustration but from my point of view it was a failure and I'm glad they cancelled it. It failed to live up to the "epicness" of Battlestar Galactica. Go figure. Then again, what in gods name is there to really watch on Syfy these days.

Caprica was one of the few things I actually watched on SciFi (fuck that SyFy nonsense) besides Stargate SG1 up until O'Neil, and Daniel left.

it is a shame.  i was waiting for the season to finish out before i started watching it.  i don't have cable and i prefer to have the flexibility of watching an episode whenever, that way a cliffhanger is still fresh in my mind if i so chose.

i had heard some decent things about this series.  the onion a.v. club really liked it, and they tend to have pretty good taste.  the sad thing is that the other prequel series that just got the greenlight is going to revert to a much more basic, primal and violent formula.  it's called Blood & Chrome and it will likely do much better than Caprica.

I watch Caprica, but am not too impressed and am not surprised its getting cancelled.  I think it had too much ridiculous drama, not enough sci-fi.  It was bad in the same way the last two seasons of battlestar were bad - just a soap opera with a token sci-fi setting thrown in.
