great grow chamber... for one

a friend of mine, the senator came up with a great grow chamber. he likes to keep the bulk of his growing out of immediate sight, but still enjoys watching his mushrooms grow. so what he usually does, is birth his cakes into a large tupperware container, and after a few days, when he sees one he likes he transfers it to the container seen below. it's just a 100 CD spindle inverted with the post cut off. works well if you don't like everyone to see your crops but still enjoy watching them all the time as he does. enjoy!

Good idea, but doesn't your friend know that its bad to put cakes directly on perlite? I had a friend do that and his cakes got too wet and make really fuzzy mycelium. He opened his container a bit and then it got too dray. Put it on a canning lid or some aluminum foil or something, this way it wont soak up the water directly, just through the air.

Not necessarily. Infact, some people get better results when the cakes are placed directly on the perlite.

I hear that its cool to do that untill the cake pins but once it pins put it on a canning lid or something to that effect.

glad you guys like it. to address cosmictourist: the senator first off would like to thank you for your concern, but he says that the water only comes about 0.5" up and the perlite is 1" thick, so there isn't any need to worry about over saturation. the only thing he's experienced is that sometimes the mushrooms lower on the cake get very thick and water logged, but it all dries out during the drying process.
