Grow Chamber Setup, few questions

Hey I am just about to start my first growing experience with shrooms.. now I am wondering about setting up a grow chamber. What is the best way in your opinion? I am not too sure I have been reading ALOT of posts and grow logs and seen many different ways. Out of all the chambers I have seen in the grow logs I haven't seen anyone using a drip shield as it suggests in the Magic Mushroom Growers Guide. Why is this? As well I am wondering about the H2O2 that people talk about.. why not simply just have the buddler using H2O? My last question is about using the air pump INSIDE the chamber to raise humidity, I hear this is a good way to raise humidity but it says that it might increase the heat to much, any suggestions?

Because it isn't necessary, just spray the sides of your terrarium.

H2O2 is used in hopes of fighting contamination.

It won't increase the heat, where'd you read that. Anyway, they are not necessary, just an option some people like to have (like power windows). :tongue:

Usually airpumps take the air in from the bottom of the pump so putting the pump
inside your fruiting chamber would only circulate the air inside it and thus not
provide fresh air.

screw the bubbler, toss the drip shield, just use perlite. when you lift the lid off do it carefully so that you can dump the condensation...i just dump mine into the perlite...which has bleach in it. yeah, you can put peroxide everywhere.

but if the only purpose is to raise humidity, using it with a bubbler and putting it inside the chamber should work. but simply running an air pump in the chamber will do nothing worthwhile. sure it'll move the air, but you could get that done a lot more effectively by fanning or putting the pump outside so you also get fresh air exchange.

Sweet.. perfect answers! Now I have a bit more knowledge to continue with my project and can get onto making my grow chamber!

And actually one more quick one.. should I put say wire mesh ontop of the perlite so the roomies don't touch the perlite..? Or should I just place them right on the perlite like I have seen in some of the growlogs (maybe they were being held above the perlite but it sure looked like the roomies were right on it).

but if you use a bubbler, pumping air from outside to inside, you have also covered fresh air exchange, unlike a pan of wet perlite.

i just think they're unnecessary, just adds more tubes and noise. unless of course you're going to leave them unattended for several days, in which case i might rig one up.

ghosty, which setup you use really depends how much time you want to spend taking care of your shrooms and whether you are growing casings or cakes.
The most hasslefree setup is to use a ultrasonic humidifier on a timer with a light on a timer. With this setup, after birthing the only thing you need to do is change the water in the humidifer every few days.

Yeah, once you get it set up right, but I think that's really hard for someone with his knowledge (no offense intended, merely stating that you are not knowledgable in this area....yet :wink: ).

doing casings in rubbermaid with air pump bubbling in water/perlite inside rubbermaid, i don't do anything but pick shrooms. maybe add a little water to the water/perlite container once every week or two or three or mist casings a bit if they dry out. but there's lots of way to success.

I vote for a cool mist humidifier ($2-$3at a thrift store), and some 5/8 inch garden hose. Provides humidity and lots of air exchange. Simpleandcheap.So far- I like this set up better then the air pump.

An ultra sonic humidifier would be a bit expensive at this stage.. I think I shall at least test out the air pump/bubbler first to see how the roomies grow. If they come out and they are good I may invest in some better equipment.

I am also a new grower; let me tell you about the success I had. I went to Kmart and bought several plastic see through one gallon "jar" containers. I put 2 inches of perlite and 1/4 inch of water. THAT IS ALL YOU NEED IN MY OPINION. I had very good success using this method. I didn't bother using all the other complicated methods you read about. All I had to do was fan twice a day and pick. THAT'S IT!

Thats all I use with cakes and the walls of my terrarium are wetter than a 13 year old girl at an nsync concert.  :wink:

You know, I hadn't thunk too much 'bout that, it hasn't posed a problem yet, if it happens at all. Shit, I'll tell you what you can do if you are worried about this, raise one side of your terrarium ever-so-slightly.
