Vermiculite to BRF to Water.., best proportion?

Hi everybody,

So I'm still pretty new to this, and have been reading a bunch of different BRF-based teks.
One thing I've noticed that's worrying is how different the proportions of vermiculite/BRF/water are. I've seen 3/1/1, 8/3/4, and 3.5/1/1. Has anyone done a head to head comparison to see which one, with all other conditions the same, is the fastest or most fruitful or most contam-resistant? I'd like to use the best proportion, but have no idea which one that would be.

Ive never experimented with different ratios but using the 2:1:1 Verm:BRF:Water as suggested in the Lets Grow Mushrooms! videos has worked excellently for me. Just make sure to mix the verm and water first, then mix in the BRF

i normally do it the same way but i use the old baking rule, of mixing my dry ingredients first then the wet. and that has worked fine for me
never really get to many clumps

This is one exception to the old baking rule. 

The reason is that the very fine rice flour will sink to the bottom of the bowl of vermiculite, and then when you add water it will clump up and not mix well.  By mixing the water and verm first, and then slowly adding the rice flour, you ameliorate that problem.

Doesn't matter in my experience, I get growth anyway. I always add water last.

To OP: I use 1/2 cup verm, 1/4 BRF, and a little less then 1/4 cup water. Works well and I don't get sludgey jars.
