finer vermiculite???

Well, I was wondering if this will work...
If I grind or Crush a coarser vermiculite, Will that in turn make it a finer vermiculite that will hold more water???
I know the more coarse the vermiculite the less water it holds, but the type of vermiculite I got is "Black Gold" and it is pretty coarse. That's the only vermiculite I can find locally...
Anyways tell me what you guys know, etc...

I find the coarse verm is good for substrate....i used finer grade verm for the dry verm layer or just a plain old casing layer if you're lazy......like me

Will crushing something make it finer? The world may never know.

of course it will. i want to know what it will do to the verm other than make it finer. what will happen to its water holding ability, will it improve the contam protection? if so would i be best to use the finer verm for the contam layer in BRF cakes?

Im not sure on contams but IME finer grade vermiculite helps produce alot more pins when I dunk n roll as compared to the chunkier stuff.
