Don't compact that vermiculite.

Anyone using fine or med-fine ground vermiculite ......as or in the casings.
if you make it too thick and too tight and too wet it will seal the cake , the mycelia will be forced to fruit, if you are lucky, elsewhere.
When you turn your cake over from frustration and then it fruits this is usually what happened.. Go easy and light with the finer vermiculites and they will work just right for most of your needs. Just my opinion. and news from the front lines.

I havent seen a tek that says packing is good in over a year. I thought this was becomgin a given.
