Vermiculite
    #8788614 - 08/17/08 11:41 PM (9 years, 9 months ago)

I've been using a finer grain of vermiculite for my cakes. I'm not imprested with the growth so far. Should I be using a courser grain. Would that help with the size of the fruit? Are they struggling to grow because of the density of the cake?
Thanks,
Yabecoo

What proportion of each are you using.....verm, bfr, water......how long are you cooking them in the pc?  what strain are you using?  are they sitting in the dark?....so many things affect a grow....give us more information please?

The finer vermiculite seems to be preferred among growers.

I think verm is a sponge material so coarser verm holds more water inside. I've noticed you use a lot of verm in MC particularly in cakes it will be if memory serves me (I haven't done a cake in over 2 months) 50% of your cakes total volume. So going to your local Agricultural Supply store and buying a 110L bag would be a smart idea.

I don't think verm is the problem.. Where do you fruit them in?

Small fruits may be lack of moisture, either the cake is dry or you humidity is too low.

Did you dunk your cakes to rehydrate the mycelium??

If your cakes are dry (you may have bruising if they are dry) sit them in a saucer of water to help provide some more moisture.

Make sure to be misting and fanning at least 4 times a day.

You need to edit your link, its missing part at the beginning.

the verm you are using will not cause them to grow slow or small,

the fruits in your picture are not a bad size.

Tub with lid. Clear poly on top to let in light opaque on side. Perlite in bottom. Mist and fan 3-5 a day.

Mist and fan 3-5 time daily. I did dunk and roll in beginning and just dunk 1 2 days ago as it seemed to growth slowed down. I just thought the Penis Envy got much bigger from the pics I've seen.
