Trichocereus peruvianus or Trichocereus cuzcoensis?
    #13185035 -

Hey guys... I've posted plenty of pictures of my gigantic in-ground trichs, and I've always labeled these ones as peruvianus and no one has corrected me, so I'm thinking maybe they are actually peruvianus. But, it confuses me that the lower spines ARE white, and that the aereoles ARE kind of swollen, as are both the case with cuzco's....

So..... I want to see what you guys think. Any opinions are welcome. Thanks!

One of the tops....

A little older growth.......

Old growth at bottom and new growth coming up from pups...

Well  I say....  eat that fucker now and you tell us if it is active.  If it is then I will never call a cacti a Cuzco again because that ones got the classic Cuzco traits .

  :bongload:

BTW :  it is still a nice fucking cactus though  :-).

So... Cuzco, eh? I figured it probably was... God damn BBB!

Well, there are a total of 4 main bases with some pups on each of them that are around 4 ft... If that thing's a Cuzco I'm going to take out that whole section except one of them and plant more bridgesii's for sure. I  bridgesii

EDIT:

Anyone else? Cuzcoensis for sure? Any confirmations on that?

It's looking as though it's a Cuzco(refer here) but before you rip them up you should do an extraction on some to ascertain whether or not it does contain mescaline and if so, how much. By doing this you could clear up some conjecture and misconceptions surrounding this species.

In a couple more years your Trich garden will look fantastic, not that it doesn't look good as it is now.:sun:

Yes, I've definitely read conflicting reports on the alkaloid content of Trichocereus cuzcoensis. Some reports claim that it has around the same percentage as San Pedro and some claim that it contains a minuscule amount, and some claim that it doesn't contain any at all. I suppose an extraction would be the only way to tell for sure...

I agree with the T. cuzcoensis ID's as well.

I've got one traded as a long-spine pachanoi.

I find a majority of T. cuzco reports tend to be negative but certainly doent mean yours may or may not be higher in potency.

If you have an UV light, the good alkaloids will shine dark green.

Dry a piece of the cactus and extract with a small ammount of alcohol.

The liquid should have a dull green glow under UV light.

Hybrids have been running amok for so long, I don't think another set of numbers without a proper pedigree is gonna help much of anything.  (...which also leads into my explanation of all the conflicting numbers.)
