So, I think this is Cuzcoensis, but if it is...
    #17871602 -

then that brings up some questions for me. Here's a photo of a big pup I got with my Bridgesii cuttings:

It fits the profile of bumpy ribs with amber spines/cuzco spine pattern.
This would be fine, but I've also seen some totally different looking cacti ID'd on here as Cuzcoensis. And my cactus also doesnt match with the Cuzcoensis at BBG, seen here:

That specimen isnt as bumpy, and has different spination.
So  is this a case of subspecies variance? Why do we label so many unknown, variable trichocereus sp. as Cuzco? And how does this affect the idea that Cuzco are inactive. Surely the different varieties differ in alkaloid content. In fact, now that I mention it, I think I remember reading about Cuzco with pachanoi level mescaline content.

Anyway, this is essentially another ID thread, so I hope yall bear with my rambling.

I would say it fits into the cuzcoid profile, but ribs and spination look Cuzco to me.

Looks like a cuzcoid without a doubt.

You need to understand that the species level for plants is very broad and some botanists even think that pachanoi and peruvianus should be merged. As such there can be a tremendous amount of variation between members of the same species. Furthermore even clones within Trichocereus can vary wildly in appearance depending on the conditions in which it was grown.

Comparing your pup to a pictures of the mature BBG stand isn't going to do you any favors. When looking at morphology like "bumpiness" and spination you need to look at the broad underlying structure. This is very similar to mushroom ID. If you focus on specifics or it doesn't look exactly like this other one you are bound to make mistakes.

There is some variability, but for the most part they are considered not worth the trouble due to a very low mescaline concentration in the majority of specimens. Kind of a shame since they are some of the most beautiful in the Trichocereus family.

Don't PM me with bullshit.  I don't sell or trade cactus and I don't know where you can get any, other than your mother's ass.
