Perivuanus or Cuzcoensis?

I can never work this one out...

With you being in Australia I'd say it's a variety of T. peruvianus. It's not what is called T. cuzcoensis. Those have Honey coloured spines and the long, central spine goes Bone white after a season or Two. Yours are more red/brown and the centrals look to retain colour for a bit. The spines on T.cuzcoensis also don't flare at the base like the ones on your cactus do, they taper evenly from tip to base.

The unanimous consensus over on SAB is that this is Cuzcoensis. The thing is, this plant looks radically different from my named clone Cuzcoensis called "Gnosis"

Here is my Cuzco cutting, "Gnosis". Looks quite different to the cactus in question, but all the SAB ppl tell me its Cuzco.

But... the pup forming at the base of this beast looks Cuzco to me, very different to the mature part of the cactus.

Here is the pup. Note the knobbly areoles and Double X-form top that I associate with Cuzco.

Overall, quite confused and dont really know what to label this guy.

Oh yeh, i photographed them on purpose, theres several others, quite high up. Its. got quite a bend at the base and it looks like its preparing to snap and then root itself a new cutting.

The same clone can look radically different due to environmental factors, like sun exposure, for example. One grown in shade will look much different to one grown in strong light and exposed to the elements. Grow these Two Trichocereus out and you might see that they're similar. Most plants are lumped into species groups based on some common traits. I'm too baked right now to get too technical, but that's basically it.

If that pup in the picture you posted is from the original plant in the OP then it does really look like a cuzcoensis. It's just that it doesn't resemble the ones you see posted online from the US, and often confused with peruvianus.:stoned:

yeh i agree, the pup looks cuzco. the parent, due to environmental factors doesnt seem to have the bulged areoles or even the cuzco x-form top. And the adult spines dont look cuzco either.
