I was so excited to get this nice big Peruvian cutting. After having a couple trusted cacti identifiers tell me this is a Cuzcoensis I'm disappointed. I got it from a reliable vendor too, but I guess this isn't the first time this has happened.

I got it from a reliable vendor. Is there any way of differentiating the two with cut spines? Or do I have to wait until they grow out? I got it from the most reliable source I know of, hoping its really T. Peruvian but we shall see. I got a Pachanoi on the way too
Cuzcos are sometimes grouped as a subspecies of peruvianus. The round bumpy ridges and tapered top seem to indicate cuzco. Ueres a side by side example of my cuzco next to my peruvianus (just imagine the one on the left w/o spines):

It's whatever I'm not going to make a big deal out of it. Just a buyer beware type thread.
Happy holidays

The spines have been cut off for easier shipping...
I'm not sure if I would call this a cuzco just yet. Looks far too fat. You will know the minute it starts growing and producing new spines, if it's P. cuzcoensis they will be yellow when young, fading to white, and dark brown/red if it's T. peruvianus.

There is two small yellow spines towards the tip that the picture doesn't show. Looks like they have been cut. I'm pretty positive this is not a Peruvian. I'll keep it and take care of it regardless. Its still a cool cactus, and I grow them specifically for ornamental purposes anyways.

I have understand about this nickname of "peruvian torch" ..It's a "brand" for spiny trichocereus..
People, vendors and nurseries sell/trade/give/buy t. peruvianus, cuzcoensis or look-a-like hybrids just under the name of peruvian torch.
