I disagree with Rollins viewpoints sometimes. He is after all a pretty fucking opinionated guy. I agree though, electronic music is mostly a joke. I also fucking love the generic rocker voice he did. Me and my friends use the same thing when imitating Creed/Puddle of Mud/Knickleback. They all sound the fucking same.

yeah that was a little exaggerated.  Like i said in my edit, i think its really more for deep bass and drum work.

I'm also kind of assuming that playing the actual instrument and producing or engineering the sound is two entirely seperate roles.  a drummer can also be a producer or an engineer, but that would be the individual, the role of drummer is less concerned with the actual sound than the playing of it.

i mean drum kits are startlingly limited compared to what you can do with electronics.  pretty much every local untalented band i see the thing that always stands out as amazingly terrible besides the sound system is always the drums.

I've dabbled in electronic music and I completely understand his viewpoint. In fact I can admire the aspect of electronic music that he's addressing. However you're only reinforcing how ignorant the first quote was. If you think tuning your guitar and adjusting the truss rod is all that a musician puts into his instrument then you really don't even belong in this conversation.

nah i get what they're saying.  there is alot of agony that goes into picking the right guitar or the right kit.  the right effects pedals.  pro muscians usually use alot of different instruments for different songs.  i know they play with tunings and all that.

i'm just saying its still very narrow compared to what electronic muscians work with...

except when it comes to like melody and harmonics and some other shit i don't know the musical terms for.

i realize i'm kind of trolling a bit on this, since it really comes down to preference.

to all their own.  I definitely concede that alot of electronic music does not live up to all this potential i'm awestruck about, and thats why alot of it can seems very similar and repetitive.

this is pretty muc hthe same idea... except for the tuning that is. (btw tuning is annoying as fuck. i like my own tunings... i improvise. LOLOL)

Maybe. I think Rollin's, I, and a lot of others also lose a lot of respect for electronic music because of their backround. I mean punk rock hardly requires a lot of musical talent. It's more about the message. What message do synthesizers send? To him it's probably just noise. I'm not saying that's all it is. And obviously there are great instrumental bands. But it doesn't exactly send you deep into philosophical thought either. That's just the drugs :gethigh:

that video is kind of exactly what i'm talking about.

that dude obviously has some skill in playing, and he obviously cares about complexity because his kit is decently sized, but frankly to my electronic ears, most of the individual sounds he's playing just don't fit in with the rest of the song at all, and the melody within the rythmes are pretty weak.

skip through the intro and check out the drums on this.  sounds pretty organic, but you'll just never find a sound like that on a live drummer.

lyrics are good.... for somethings.

instrumentals do more for my conceptual mind... lyrics are importent for understanding waht certain bands messages are.

kreator - no reason to exist

love the lyrics... means so much more IN THIS CASE for the song because it is so much a message then just the instrumentals (which are easy enough for the song)

kimbo, you just gave me soem really irritating "half-reggae/dub" that i can't understand cause it's garbage.
