Mycelium5150 this is the first time I have heard of this method. I think I am going to give it a try. Thanks for pointing it out.

Rye kicks ass!! Not all will agree with that statement, but I am very happy with it. If you have a copy of TMC go to page 46, if you don't use 1 cup rye to 2/3-3/4 cup water. I use half gallon jars with plastic lids and synthetic filter discs. The best way for me is to load jars with grain and water and i usually then place in pressure cooker and simmer them while cooker is heating up (some say to soak for up to 24hrs). After about 30 min of simmering, I seal up PC and allow to vent for 5 min place jiggler on and cook for 2 hrs at 15psi. I allow jars to cool in front of flow hood or in HEPA filtered glove box (I use both). Barely open jar lid w/filter disc and inject about 5cc per 1/2 gal. Place in dark warm cabinet or closet and allow to germinate for 3-4 days. When I see growth, I shake jar up and allow to germinate for another 8-10 days and then shake again. then allow the mycelium to grow until jar is completely white, shake again, place in tray and cover to allow for "recovery" about 3 days. Case with Jiffy Mix or 50/50+, recover for another 2-3 days. Uncover,Place in terrarium and muster all the patience you have LOL. So much for a short answer  Best of luck.

Ok, im with the quart jar bit also, well... I dont use quarts, i use one gallon jars. but there a better cheaper thing then the filter disc. Drill a hole about 3/8 inch in the center of the lid, get some poly fill from kmart or wally world. Its in the fabric section, its pillow stuffing. Now get some needle knows pliers and pull a wad of the poly fill through the hole. so its real tight. NOw p cook the jars with the lids on tight and covered with aluminium foil, make sure the seal side is down on the lids so it DOES seal. Now once there cool push the syring through the side of the poly fill and the metal lid. I have not had one contam using this tek. You can read more about it at www.sporeworks.com

Thanks for the tips guys. I tried on 2 occasions to innoculate rye with spore solution and had no luck. I was thinking of chopping up colonized half pint rice/vermiculite substrates and putting them in with the rye jars. Can you guys think of a good way to do this with the lowest risk of contamination?

Here are two links that sounded good to me. I have not tried them myself. i think that there are others in the Grow/Find section under mycelium culture techniques. Good Luck.
