Yeah, it holds h20 better but makes a tighter mixture..this 'tightness' does not induce rhizomorphic growth

Why i though the more fine vermiculite the better cause it holds more water...is this not true?

Problems have occured in the past with fine vermiculite in my friends experience that is!
Suffocating the mycelium was the biggest one. By using a more coarse mixture he increased success ratios and achieved the same purpose a half pint of spawn for straw or manure. If growing on jar cakes the extra water the fine vermiculite might hold could be beneficial.

ARIES

If you havn't tried straw and have some space do it the stuff is wonderfull.

m having great success with the fine vermiculite..its colonizing pretty fast with heavy rhizomorphic growth. I also added 1 packet of sweet and low (the sugar substitue) per 2 pints of substrate. One of the rhizomorphic strands is over an inch long! the rest arent far behind and they are evrywhere!
