cool mist in a martha correct way?
    #11023800 -

Well, finally i have some pinning going on, i was about to give up on them. Hopefully they turn out. I have a martha setup and wonder about how i have my cool mist humidifier setup is correct.

in my martha i have 4 shelves, i have 2 6" duct fans sitting on the top of the martha that pull air in from the top blowing down into the martha. I have a cool mist on the last shelf with some flexible duct pulling air from outside of the martha into the cool mist intake. I was wondering should i just have the cool mist recycling the air or should i have it the way i have it with the flex duct connected to the outside whch is connected directly to the intake of the cool mist?

I also have a ultra sonic humidifier outside the martha connected to it with 3/4 inch hose to the top shelf. my temps are 75 and humidity 94%...

^^Weird, I understood every word he said. Apparently you have the I.Q. of the guy in that pic you have there, or is that you?

Anyway, I've been going through the same shit and I'd say that the way you have it is good, that's the way I was going to do it but now I have both my cool mist and ultra piped in with the cool mist just providing FAE 24/7 and the ultra on low-medium 24/7, this gives me ~95% Humidity. This is all my Opinion of course but get some others so you can make a decision for yourself, or just experiment man, that's what I've been doing. GL and have fun above all.

why complicate things? I used a martha setup for awhile, and am now messing with it again. But all this piping faning is so unecesary. Put the cool mist in the bottom of the martha, get a hygrometer, open the zippers up until you're holding a rh of 97+ all the time, and maybe once a day open the zippers all the way up and flap out the air. I've always had great pinsets this way. The cool mist provides plenty of humidity and fae. Don't make life hard.

  Exactly what I've been saying for years.  By having the coolmist inside, you recycle the already humid air, thus raising it to the upper 90% range that you want for best pinsets.  Slits or an open door will provide all the fresh air exchange.  I'd get rid of the fans too.

thanks rr  i was afraid of leaving the zipper unzip because of contams or nats getting in. just curious to why you say to loose the fans? my one tray has the best pins ever so far for any of my grows the second tray is coming up just like the first one and the third tray who knows as of yet.

1. Colonized substrate can hold it's own against contams. More Free Air Exchange actually= less contams. People are always saying "don't fan, you'll let in the trich!". By fanning regularly (bringing in new clean air) you do not let contams get a foothold on your substrate.

2. Lose the fans because they are not needed. Simply not needed at all. Monotubs get great pinsets by simply pointing a fan at the wall in the same room as your tub. Hurricane winds are not necesary to fruit cubies. And it also makes it more difficult to keep the rh up.

3. But if what you're doing is providing really great flushes why fuck with it?

Hey mate, could you please attach a pic of this because I'd be interested in seeing your set-up!! I'm keeping everything very simple at this point but have been considering getting a cool mist and setting up a martha. Cheers!

This is exactly what I am going to do next if I can find a blasted mini greenhouse in this city.

All you need is a hardware store.  Get some 2" PVC pipe and fittings to build a frame, and then wrap plastic sheeting over it.  That's all I've ever done.  Make it big enough to set the coolmist inside and beside the shelves, not on a shelf.  You want the coolmist sitting on the bottom with an unobstructed area above it to shoot the mist.

This gives the mist room to evaporate into the air without hitting shelves and condensing back to water droplets.  It also aids in circulation so all your humidity isn't just at the top.  Humid air is less dense than dry air, so without good circulation humidity tends to be higher at the top of the greenhouse and lower at the bottom.

I actually work at a hardware store. We were selling those 4 tier mini greenhouses with the zippered front a few months ago and those are PERFECT. They were 30 bucks and I'd rather just find another place that sells them for around the same price if possible, save myself the trouble of butchering a bunch of materials

What do you use to make the shelves themselves in your pvc frame?

Plastic shelves made by rubbermaid are fairly cheap and don't rust.  They're available at most hardware stores, but also at places like Lowes and home depot for people in cities.

An alternative is to build your own shelves from PVC pipes and hardware cloth.

I haven't used one since I moved a few years ago.  I used to build mini-greenhouses when I lived in a condo in Seattle.  You can find a lot of pictures of them by searching posts prior to 2007.

My grow room now is somewhat larger. Check out the pink door.

The black and white pipes sticking up are the fruiting room ventilation.

I am using a martha set up, and have a vicks cool mist humidifier.
I have been placing the humidifer at the bottom of the tent, but the moisture supersaturates the medium.
So I suspected that I should put the humidifer outside with the jet inside, as not to supersaturate any further.
But here you are saying it should be at the bottom?
Cause maybe I am doing it a little wrong...
  Please explain on this,
  thanks,

leave it inside the martha but put it on a timer like 15 minutes on and thirty minutes off repeating. timers are about $10-$15 and are worth every penny.

Yes a timer.  In addition, don't let the cool mist blow directly against the shelf above.  If it does, the water will condense and drip back down, making a mess.  Put the humidifier to the side of your shelves so it can shoot straight up to the top of the GH.  By the time the mist reaches the top, it will have had time to evaporate into the air.

There should never be mist settling on your substrates.  If there is, reduce the run time with your timer, and/or cut more holes in the plastic for fresh air exchange and evaporation.
