google chrome refuses to work

i ran a virus scan, now it wont work anymore. :dudewtf:

I have the same or a similar issue

Norton can't fix it.
Avg can't fix it.
Malware malbites can't fix it.
Wise registry cleaner can't fix it.
System restore can't fix it.
Found out I can't even do Windows Updates anymore.
Also all my other browsers are auto-launching various urls - most often juggle.com.

Same. Half the time my browsers won't even work. They're all fucked

sounds like nothing a good ole reformat wont fix.  once you get back in biz, i recommend eset smart security,let me know if u need a copy.

Alright I think I got it fixed....

Download Netscape (the ole school browser) from www.download.com

Search for Windows Vista SP2 on Google and go to the link to download it - ASSUMING you are running Vista.

Wa-lah! Although I have had one crash so far.

that is why you have to protect yourself.

but if you want to keep having the same problems over and over then continue to do what youve been doing..

lol, you don't want to fix your virus just because it only broke one program?

Again, I suggest those of you who reinstall windows to make a disk image, that way when this happens again you can just jump back to when things were good and not have to reinstall.

this is the first time this has ever happened. i formatted for another reason. and every other browser works except google chrome. so im going with the conclusion that google chrome sucks ass:shrug:

if it's strictly a virus issue then how come NOTHING can detect it? how do you even know it exists? formatting is rarely the answer even though it works.

you are wrong.

if this started happening after a virus scan then maybe one of the critical files that chrome needs was infected and subsequently deleted.

a program doesnt stop working for no reason.

there's always a reason correct. that doesnt mean that we always know what it is. and if that were the case it would have worked when i reinstalled it no?

not necessarily. no.

if there is a setting that was changed and stored in the registry then it would not be removed with a simple uninstall.

uninstalling an application in windows does not mean that it is 100% completely removed.

there are usually artifacts left over in the registry from any application that has been installed on the machine.

so having used a registry cleaner the error should have been corrected, theoretically speaking. if i uninstalled that registry entry  should be useless.

assuming there is no virus, and you reinstalled it, then yeah i would assume there is some weird setting sticking around in the registry.

A/V programs are worthless.  Just enable UAC and don't install programs if you don't know where they came from.
