Chrome vs. Firefox
    #12065554 - 02/20/10 03:54 PM (11 years, 10 months ago)

I just switched my main browser from Firefox to Google Chrome.  Liking it so far, but I still have some exploring to do with it.  Seems to run a bit faster.  I also like the layout:  You see more of the browser window and less of the browser.  There's add-ons just like you have for Firefox, though I imagine there's far fewer.  Anyway, I'm pretty satisfied with it so far.  Anyone else care to offer a comparison?

i think it runs a little faster but the extensions i use in firefox are essential.

if im not able to use the browser the way i want then i dont want to use it.

ill stick with firefox for the time being

i find an occasional website that isn't displayed properly w/ chrome here and there, but otherwise prefer it.  all of them seem equally fast to me though.

http://www.google.com/chrome?platform=mac

It's available for 10.5 and later but for Intel only Macs. I don't like it as much as firefox though. I love ad blocker.

Guess I'm out of luck then :frown:

I doubt it would top firefox in the end though. FF just has too much of a backing already. Kind of how Bing and yahoo will never become close to Google.

What browser does display it correctly? Not being a fanboy, but typically if its not displayed correctly in chrome, its the web developers fault.

I switched to Chrome on the day it was released. My experiences so far:
- more robust than Firefox; i.e. more difficult to crash. However, if it crashes, mostly the problem isn't isolated to one tab as Google implies.
- better performance with Flash and PDF plugins than with Firefox.
- introduction of plugins recently has improved functionality greatly, although for most purposes, Chrome was adequate even before that point in my experience

The differences aren't too big in any case. I prefer Chrome at the moment. I use FireFox and IE for the two sites/apps I use regularly that don't work with Chrome. IE still sucks tremendously, and between FF and Chrome it's a close call.

The first versions of Chrome were weak, but Google has since fixed many a bug. It's fast as shit and now compatible with most pages. Not as many plug-ins as for Firefox, but it has a few nice touches of its own, like being able to re-size forms and the most visited page.

My GF has Chrome on her pc and I've used FF on mine for as long as I can remember.  Browsing is much quicker on Chrome, but I have so many apps on FF that I need to continue to use it for now.  As Google grows a more robust selection of apps, I'll probably jump over.

I prefer chrome on my PC's, its just much leaner and ive had no problems with flash or java.

But flash isnt working in the Mac version, so im still using FF on my macs.

I'm not sure. Based on my experience, I'd expect little difference. Both will run on pretty outdated hardware anyway.
