That sucks bigtime. Sounds like you badly damaged the transmission, so keep in mind that that will most likely have to be rebuilt or replaced. That's usually pretty expensive to begin with. Then you probably bent some bits on the front wheel suspension as well, especially on the right side. It's possible you damaged/bent the right rim as well. Replacing damaged bodywork parts and lights will be your smallest concern atm.

Really blows, man.

Consider it a blessing. Think of how much money you can save without
one. Its the best first step to getting away from our use of oil anyways.

BTW, change the title to the Oil thread. Needs to be updated.

Yeah, could be $2,000-$3,000 if not more just for the transmission.

i doubt you bent your chassis (from the sound of it) hard enough to mess up your transmission.  More likely is the axle on the wheel that got glanced and snapped.

It sounds like it could be your fan blades hitting something.
When you shift into gear your motor will torque a little and sometimes if there is enough damage, it will allow the fan blades to hit something as they spin.

In that case, disregard what I said.
It's definitely not that.

I'm thinking more along these lines. The chasis of the car is fine. I mean think about it like this.. BOTH headlights still work. I barely glanced it, but where it glanced, it was a strong fucking glance. I think the entirety of the impact was on that wheel, so I'm imagining I snapped the axle. How much would that be to replace?

well, firstly.  what kind of car?  I personally would do the work myself (doubt it would require more than you, a friend, a few beers and two jack stands and a set of light tools assuming you're strong enough to not need air tools)

If it's fwd and you have an open differential the car will not move with a screwwed up axle.

To have someone do it?  Prob like 500$ depending on the car is my guess.  I'd source the axle and do it myself though, probably cost half as much

I just spoke to a mechanic about replacing the front axle of my camry; apparently a re manufactured axle shouldn't run you more than $250.

i wouldn't trust an axle to be welded back if that's what you mean.  I personally drive far too hard to trust that

How fast were you going? I kind of did the same thing, except after running up the curb I dug a nice hole in the biggest part of the bushes at around 50 mp/h.

My car starts fine, but my alignment was warped. Have to hold the steering wheel to the side to go in a straight line. This happened about 6 months ago...still running!

But is your alignment fine? You can make right and left turns without the tires rubbing against the body?

i don't want to be negative but it sounds a lot like what happened when i crashed my tC and ruined my transmission. hopefully that's not it...with no other serious issues that easily cost 3k to repair, even though i got a friend to do it at his shop.

whatever it is, don't drive it until you know what's wrong! there's a serious chance you could damage it even more.
