Thanks for the link. homebase is a bit far from me. I got a b n q though.

That just reminded me though that I think I have one of those big pump sprayers that you like pump for a while to build up the air pressure, then press the spray button. I think it has an adjustable sprayer. Gonna have a look around for it.

Thats funny scatman, meant to post tihs earlier forgot to click the button. Gonna have a look around the house for it tomorrow.

That is the point, pump up pressurized. Some of the larger ones put out a heavy mist, but you can find them at home depot or gardening section of a home improvement store, some of the medium sized ones are good. You can get misty mate like things on ebay, shipped all over the world. "Personal mister"

But maybe you have one that will work grand. Just gotta find it :smile:

Rye got here today. The bag was ripped to shit and spilling out. Emailed both companies to try and sort it out. Going to soak some tomorrow, make some sort of lids for the jars. Also going to get some more pf jars made up. Hope my hygrometers get here soon.

anyways I haven't seen much happening in my fc last few days. I tipped it hard while moving it around yesterday and bruised some of the shrooms i had growing. I missed a couple of fannings too. The couple that are growing now have bruises on them. Haven't noticed them growing much either.

Pretty much all the pins that are on the bottom of the cakes have aborted. They must be too dry or something? I might just pick what I can off them aborts and all and just re dunk and try to start over. does that sound like a smart move?

Bit of an update.

I dunked and rerolled my cakes yesterday. They look a lot better than they did before. I hope the reroll does them some good.

I also make 4 750g jars of rye and pced them yesterday following the rr vid. Also made another 18 pf jars. Just realised that I didnt wipe the top edges of the last 14 jars. FUUUUUUUUCK. I think I might just go for it and see what happens. I dont think much touched them for the most part. I am devastated that I just realized it. Was sooooo much work yesterday. Was gonna noc them up tonight with some brazil lc.

Any thoughts?

yeah, i forgot to wipe the top edge where the verm layer goes, before I pced them.. I heard that thats a way for contams to work they're way down past the verm layer.

I think you'll probably be ok, may lose one or two, but you shouldnt lose the whole batch, if any.

Go for it. MY first PF attempt I didn't wipe down any of the jars, and I still got good results.

Glad I just thought about all this stuff.

I think I'm going to put micro pore tape over the holes after I inoculate Just to play it safe :tongue2:

Just though of something else. I RAN OUT of verm yesterday for a few of the jars filters. I put a layer of tyvek under the lid instead. Now I have to poke through it. Do you think micro pore tape is my best bet for that as well? I can put more tyvek over the top after I innoc I guess.

Your thoughts?

Another question. My cakes in fc are rolled in verm. I put extra on top and bottom. When I fan some falls off the the top. Its on the foil mostly, but in some spots its just touching the perlite.

Could this water log my cakes?

I know verm wicks but I dont know how much. Will try and post pics tomorrow.

I wouldn't worry about the verm that falls off.  If it's a lot piling up, you could brush it away from the cakes.

I've forgotten to wipe PF jar rims before PCing -- no problems.

If you have no dry verm barrier on some of those jars, then I think you'd be better off using little pieces of tyvek to patch over the inoc holes.  Micropore tape isn't as good a filter if I remember correctly from reading RR.

Good call on the tyvek over the holes. I thought about it but couldnt figure out how to get it on there. I just had a brain fart and it smelled like " put micropore over the tyvek". I think thats what I'm gonna do.  have 3 layers of the micropore over em now. Would prefer the tyvek tbh.


On a lighter note. I see loads of pins on most of my cakes in the fc this morning. cant find my camera right now. When I do I'll take some pics.

Well I looked for it for hours. No clue where it is. Its been one of those weeks where I keep loosing stuff, and find it in the stupidest places days after I want it. Last I saw it, I took it to a real ale festival on Thursday. Oops.

And I exaggerated a bit. There are pins on 4 out of nine cakes. Out of the 4, they all have at least 2 pins, and one cake has a really sweet pin set on top.  I think that it must have been one of the cakes that had loads of pins on the bottom that I put upside down when I replaced them in the fc after d n r.  These all just showed up this morning though, so I'm expecting more soon :tongue2: I think they've only been back in the fc for 3 days since the dunk. I think that's fast for pins to develop :durrhurr:

Oh and I keep forgetting to tell you guys. I was at the dump(tip) the other day. Took some yard(garden) trimmings and what not there. I always try to have a look around to see if there's anything good. I rarely find anything good here in the UK. Back in the US I would score stuff all the time. Well I was on my way to the wood dumpster to grab a fence post. I look over at the stairs leading up to the metal one as I pass by. What do I see sitting there on the stairs all by its self?

I run up to it frantically trying to sort out this enigma. I realize that its not actually mine, its just like mine but newer, missing a 6 quid gasket and the weight on top, AND sooon to be mine! :electrickoolaid:

I grabbed it and run, since your not allowed to take anything even though its just going to be recycled or whatever. Funny thing was is that I just bought a new gasket the day before. So for about 10 quid or so I got another 45£ PC. ITs even better than my old one since my old one has a slight bulge on the bottom :header:

(crazy the shit people throw out isnt it?)

Hey man, all looking good. The micropore tape you are using is it just your every day mascine tape, or should I go out and buy special tape? My LC is starting to clump now and I believe I can see little bits of white strands when I give it a gentle shake.

It's ten days in, so I hope somethings happening.

You should not use a PC with a bulge anywhere.

If verm fails off when you fan, its not wet enough to stick. You roll on dry verm but you should MIST the hell out of it right after.

As far as holes, micropore tape should be fine.

Micropore tape is medical tape. I think you can get it at any chemist or at any store that sells medicines for the most part. I could be wrong. I had loads in my house so i just use it. Its really cheap and easy to find. It breathes so thats why its good for us to use. It can let comtams in though. If you want a contam barrier you Can use that tyvek. that's its purpose. you dint have to have it over your jar holes. the verm should do the job.


and ten days and your just starting to see clumps? that sounds a bit slow to me but maybe not. Once you see mycelium forming you should give it a shake. If its going slow its probably contaminated.

Scatman- I had to leave the house right after I rolled them so I never got to heavy spray them. RR says to wait a half hour to spray them or it will fall off. I'm always scared of over misting as well.

I dont think that much comes off. I dont even see it coming off, I just hear it. Could be perlite moving or the loose verm at the bottom of the cakes moving. Maybe I just hear the stuff from the pile on bottom of the cakes moving around on the foil.
