Should I Sterilize my casing or Pasteurize it??

I want to know the best way to pasteurize my casing mix before I case my poo, or should I Sterilize it? I don't want to know any microwave teks, I want to do it the right way... plus... I don't feel like cleaning my microwave :smirk:

I got 50/50 + coir mix!

This is one of those questions you will get a bunch of different answers for. When I started, I used 50/50 peat/verm, and sterilized it for 45 min at 15psi in a pressure cooker. Now I use pure coir and just toss the brick into a pot of boiling water, cover the pot, turn off the heat, and use it as soon as it cools down. I have had the same amount of contaminations using both methods. If you have access to a pressure cooker, go for the sterilization, if not, pasteurize by putting your casing mix in a pillowcase, tie up the open end with a string or something, place in a big pot of water, put something heavy on the pillowcase (like a brick or a weight) to keep it completely under water, heat the pot up to165-175 degrees. Keep the pillowcase in the water for 45 minutes to an hour. Hope this helps.

Thanks man,

You know what... I think since i'm having such success with this pasteurizing thing (pastuerized poo) I'm going to pasteurize the fucking casing mix... just to be on the safe side!!

I didn?t notice a dramatic difference.
Contamination strikes from time to time, be it pasteurized of sterilized casing.
